Rookies that will win you Week 13

Welcome to week 13! We are at the doorstep of the fantasy playoffs, and hopefully, you are kicking back and relaxing with a first-round bye. Those that aren’t, like me, will have to make the best choices possible in order to secure a berth. As we sit and wait for the kickoff of a Wednesday afternoon football game that has thrown the fantasy world into chaos, it’s time to take a look at the surviving rookies that could help you win this coming week. Injuries have felled some bright young seasons, and Covid continues to wreak havoc. There is hope, however. These rookies will help you along as you try to configure your Rubik’s cube of a roster to make the playoffs. Good luck, and may the odds be in your favor.

QB

Justin Herbert, Chargers

A hearty congratulations to Herbert as the sole survivor of the uninjured/unbenched sweepstakes. Herbert converted 31 of 52 pass attempts for 316 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Sunday’s 27-17 loss to the Bills. Much of that was in garbage time, but Justin has proven to be a viable fantasy asset. The likes of someone named Kendall Hinton and Taysom Hill are playing QB, so if somehow Herbert is available, scoop him up immediately.

RB

Cam Akers, Rams

Akers carried nine times for 84 yards and a touchdown during Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the 49ers. Finally, the LA coaches have pulled their heads out of their butts and have played the correct RB. Akers had more yards in one drive then Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown had all game. Going forward, Akers should be the primary running back, and as such, should be added in all leagues. Most other rookies have been put on IR or are in Covid Protocol. Akers is surprisingly available in a ton of leagues so see if you can use this week’s confusion to scoop him.

WR

Pittman recorded two receptions on nine targets for 28 yards in Week 12 against the Titans. Pittman has been piling up targets in the past couple of weeks. He has been the de facto #1 WR for the Colts and has clearly taken over for the oft-injured T.Y Hilton. He is averaging over 5 catches a game, despite last week, and is an underrated PPR beast. IN dynasty, see if you can trade for him, and in redraft look around the wire to see if he sleeps through the cracks.
