Swing for the Fences: DFS HR Predictions for FanDuel and DraftKings (4/6)

Introduction

Monday’s Swing for the Fences recommendations fared much like my Opening Day article with just one home run to speak of but solid overall fantasy production by many of my hitters with five of them finishing with at least 15 FanDuel points, headlined by Yasmani Grandal with 40.4. I hope to increase the frequency of this article to at least three times per week going forward, time permitting.

Friday offers up a nice seven-game slate of MLB action (assuming we don’t get any rain or snow outs). I really like how this list of players came together and can still pair nicely with a cheap, high upside pitcher on FanDuel.

Prices included for FanDuel and DraftKings to help find where the best value may be and positions are based on FanDuel.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

SS – Manny Machado (BAL) (FanDuel: $3,800 / DraftKings: $4,200) – The wind is also blowing out in New York, where Machado will face lefty CC Sabathia who he has posted a .353 average and three homers against in 51 career at-bats.

3B – Josh Donaldson (TOR) (FanDuel: $4,600 / DraftKings: $4,800) – Donaldson has two homers over his last three games is on the road against a lefty where he put up a .490 wOBA and .438 ISO last season.

OF – Aaron Judge (NYY) (FanDuel: $4,700 / DraftKings: $5,300) – Judge has everything going in his favor tonight facing a righty Kevin Gausman who he has hit three homers in 12 at-bats against. He is also playing at home where he has put up a .433 ISO against right-handers. Oh, and the wind is blowing out, not that he really needs the help.

OF – Kyle Schwarber (CHC) (FanDuel: $3,800 / DraftKings: $4,800) – Schwarber has a career .282 ISO against right-handed pitchers and will face Brewers’ righty Brandon Woodruff who has allowed a .402 wOBA and 1.59 HR/9 to lefties at home in his brief career.

OF – Shin-soo Choo (TEX) (FanDuel: $2,600 / DraftKings: $3,400) – Choo has homered in back-to-back games and will look to make it three straight in a good hitting environment against a fly ball pitcher (Estrada) on Friday.

Longshot – Kendrys Morales (TOR) (FanDuel: $2,400 / DraftKings: $2,900) – Morales put up a .436 wOBA and .224 ISO on the road versus southpaws last season and is 3-for-5 with a homer off lefty Matt Moore in his career.

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
