The NBA Playoffs are Unfulfilling Without It’s Biggest Star, Stephen Curry

[wysija_form id=”1″]I am torn on Steph’s newest injury. As a Spurs fan, I both am overjoyed and deeply saddened. This whole year has been a roller coaster. For a time, the Spurs were also on pace for to break the 95-96 Bull’s record, yet nobody was talking bout them. The Spurs were overshadowed by Curry and the Warriors, as they went on to tie the home win record of 40 and snag a definitive two spot in the playoffs with an overall outstanding 67-15.

Stephen Curry returning game 3 or 4But enough about the greatness of the Spurs and my fandom of them. Now let me blaspheme; I don’t like Steph Curry, I love Steph Curry. I think his this season might have been a glamorous show of performance art. Dedicated hard work mixed with talent that has significantly changed the NBA aesthetic that is bleeding into to all other forms of basketball. Throughout the NCAA madness this year, so many youngsters were throwing up 30 footers that they couldn’t possibly hit. All because they saw a phenom sink them with ease in the Oracle as well as throughout the league.

Not only is he a three-point god, he thrashes to the basket and crosses over any of your favorite commercial stars, as if he was the Answer. An MVP caliber season as well as a valiant potential candidate for most improved player. He didn’t simply rain threes, it was a 73 win downpour.

He is a King, bringing Thunder and shimmying to the Jazz of 402 three-point Nuggets. He is a Trailblazer, firing on all Pistons like a Laker, Clipping any Pelicans in his way. He is a Rocket, Heating up Nets like the Sun. A Pacer, streaking to the basket like a Spur to the ass of a Bull in a china shop. He is a Wizard, using Magic to endure all the Knicks of a long season yet still making Under Armor all the Bucks. He is as dangerous in the wood-floor forest as Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Hawks and Hornets. Above all else, He is a Warrior, with a Maverick and Cavalier discipline to greatness. He also beat the Raptors, Celtics and 76ers on his way to a record-breaking season.

I don’t want an injured Steph, as much as that makes the Spur’s the favorite. I want the 2/27 46 point scoring Steph Curry, who sunk OKC in overtime with nasty long range three. Long range to the mortals, that is. Steph brings everybody up, teammates and opponents alike. If you can’t raise your game play, you lose by 30. That’s what Curry’s Warriors do.

The best part about Steph is his size. He’s small. He gives you hope. That you could overpower him. That you could block him (Only person to block him, one time, during the regular season: KAHWI LEONARD. Go Spurs.) But you can’t. He breaks you down mentally. He pulls up from 30 feet, with everybody thinking “He can’t make that.” He does. 35 feet. Buckets. 40 feet. Perfect arch swish. 45 footer. BAM. It ruins you mentally. It’s hypnotic. All the meanwhile chewing on his mouthguard, chomping at the bit to destroy your dreams.

Every game he leaves his heart on the floor. As a fan of the sport, that’s all you can ask for. He has elevated the game with his talent. Generally quite and soft spoken, he leads, not with arrogance but confidence. A rare gem leaving his mark on basketball as few have.

Supposedly, Steph will be back for game 3 against Portland. I hope that is true.
