The Only Buy Low/Sell High Guide You Need: Week 6

What a season it has been so far! Navigating through the injuries, usage concerns, and incredible primetime games have been a blessing and a curse. The NFL doesn’t care because now the bye weeks are kicking in. If trying to fill out your fantasy roster feels like a jaunt up Mount Everest then allow me to be your fantasy football sherpa.

PSA: Selling high doesn’t mean a player isn’t going to produce for the rest of the season or they suck. It means their value is at a point that the potential return in a trade is worth more than the sell-high candidate. Context matters a lot more than fantasy finish through five weeks.

SELL HIGH

Myles Gaskin, RB, Miami Dolphins

He torched the elite run defense of Tampa Bay in Week 5 to the tune of 31.9 PPR fantasy points! Now let’s apply some context. He had five rushing attempts for 25 yards which isn’t bad considering Tampa Bay has been dominant against runners. His day was made via 10 targets, 10 receptions, 74 receiving yards, and two receiving TDs. No Will Fuller or DeVante Parker necessitated a “run through the air” approach for Jacoby Brissett. Those two receiving TDs constitute 25 percent of his career TD total. I don’t trust the offense in Miami considering they gave Malcolm Brown 32 snaps compared to Gaskin’s 12 in Week 5. Maybe this was the start of Gaskin becoming the viable fantasy option he was in 2020, but I’d rather sell high and get a more reliable option like Brandin Cooks (who we’ll talk about later).

Marquez Callaway, WR, New Orleans Saints

Is New Orleans a good offense? Are they a bad offense? Your guess is as good as mine. Callaway is fresh off his best performance of the season. An elite receiving line of 8/4/85/2. His trade value is as high as it’s going to get, so it’s time to flip him. Michael Thomas and Tre’Quan Smith are eyeing a Week 7 post-bye return. Send an offer to the manager in your league who doesn’t follow the news as closely as they should. Hunter Renfrow is my recommended target for Callaway.

BUY LOW

Stefon Diggs, WR, Buffalo Bills

Top 10 in targets? Check. Fourth in air yards? Check. Great QB? Check. Non-existent running game? Check.

Diggs has all the pre-requisite boxes checked. He gets the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 who give up the most fantasy points to WRs. He is going to go nuclear this week and he has the talent and circumstances to finish as a top-three WR the rest of the season. His value is as low as it’s going to get this season.

Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston Texans

The QB situation in Houston is less than ideal, but Cooks is an alpha WR who was stifled by two really good defenses in Buffalo and New England. He checks the volume boxes in terms of targets and air yards. He gets the practice squad secondary of Indianapolis in Week 6 that was just DEMOLISHED by Lamar Jackson and company. The great thing about acquiring Cooks on the cheap before his week is you may be able to turn around and sell high after Week 7 before Houston runs into the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins.

T.J. Hockenson, TE, Detroit Lions

I want to shout this one from the mountain tops. He was “my guy” all offseason and I’m still going to bat for him. His first two weeks were elite; unfortunately, the last three have been awful. He is nursing a knee injury and the offensive line has been banged up necessitating more in-line blocking from Detroit’s best pass-catcher. The team just lost Quintez Cephus (WR) to a broken collarbone, so someone has to catch the ball. Hockenson has the talent and the situation to finish the year as a top-five player at the position. I guarantee you his manager is frustrated and looking for an alternative. I’d shop Dalton Schultz or Dawson Knox to acquire his services.
