QB Jimmy Garoppolo (SF)
When the 49ers traded up to the No. 3 spot in the draft, I was sure that a Jimmy Garoppolo to New England trade was inevitable. The trade never happened. In fact, the 49ers are still saying that Garoppolo is their QB in 2021? I’m still not buying it. As soon as the 49ers take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick, they will lower their asking price for Garoppolo — which is reportedly a 1st round pick. The Patriots seem the obvious choice and likely one of the few teams whose fanbase would actually welcome Jimmy G with open arms.
The trade likely won’t happen on Day 1 as the 49ers will still hold out hope that they can get a 1st round pick out of someone, but once we get to Day 2, look for Jimmy G to be shipped out of town. Besides the Patriots I can see him going to the Broncos, Texans, or Raiders.
WR Anthony Miller (CHI)
Of the three names on this list, Anthony Miller’s is the least sexy one. He has largely disappointed in Chicago. Some of the fault can be placed on his shoulders and some of it from terrible quarterback play. He could use a change of scenery to rejuvenate his career, and with the Bears in a transitional period with Andy Dalton under center, moving Miller makes a ton of sense.
There are a plethora of spots that could use a good No. 2 wide receiver, and Miller could cost a lot less than using a draft pick on one. The Packers could be one such landing spot, but the Bears may not want to move him to a team in the division. The Washington Football Team, if they don’t draft a wide receiver, could also use his services, and with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, he would be sure to get targets. Another sneaky good landing spot could be in Cincinnati with AJ Green’s vacated targets — Miller would fit in nicely with Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.
WR Odell Beckham Jr. (CLE)
Trade rumors have been swirling around OBJ since his first season in Cleveland when the team fell well short of preseason expectations An injury in 2020 did not help his trade value, as he has spent his fair share of time out of the lineup due to injury in his career. The Browns played much better without OBJ last year, take that how you will, but the fact of the matter is the Browns made the playoffs with OBJ on the sidelines.
There won’t be a huge trade market for him as his propensity to get injured will scare a lot of teams away — as will his loud personality — but the Browns may just want to move on from him. Maybe they draft a receiver in the mid-to-late rounds and take their chances? Some potential landing spots could include the Raiders, the Seahawks and… wait for it…the Patriots.
