Top Waiver Wire Adds for Your Fantasy Team (Week 3)

What a week? I think I made a comment last week about how clean and injury-free Week 1 was, well, Week 2 set the scales straight. With major injuries to Saquon Barkley, Courtland Sutton and Parris Campbell, multi-week injuries to Christian McCaffery, Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and others, the wire is going to be busy this week.

TE Dalton Schultz (DAL) 2% Yahoo! Ownership

Dalton Schultz is kind of an unknown guy, he’s in his 3rd season out of Stanford. I mentioned him in the fanduel cash plays article I wrote this past week as kind of a cheap flier. The Cowboys have a very talented offense, probably the best in the league in my opinion. Dalton Schultz had 10 targets, 9 catches, 88 yards, and a touchdown last week. Dak seems to like this guy. – @yetiexpress2

WR Mecole Hardman (KC) 36% Yahoo! Ownership

With Watkins hurt, expect Hardman to get more targets. He may also get a run or 2, and has the potential for a week winning performance. – @EagleDanFF

RB Myles Gaskin (MIA) 15% Yahoo! Ownership

Nobody expected Myles Gaskin to be the most valuable running back in the Miami backfield, but through two weeks that seems to be the case. He has double-digit PPR points in both weeks thanks to involvement in both the rushing and passing attack. Gaskin has 10 catches on 11 targets through two games and leads the Dolphins with 49% of the total touches.

It seems like this backfield belongs to Myles Gaskin, and with the rash of injuries so far this season, any running back who is healthy and producing can legitimately be considered to start. Gaskin has a great matchup in Week 3 in Jacksonville, I expect him to stay involved in this offense for the foreseeable future. – @GMenJay

WR Russell Gage (ATL) 21% Yahoo! Ownership

Russell Gage is rostered in 21% of fantasy leagues according to Yahoo.com. I can only surmise it is because of all the mouths to feed in Atlanta. Not to worry, this is the team that led in past attempts last season passing 42.8 times a game. Already in two weeks quarterback Matt Ryan has passed 54 times in week one and 34x in week two.

Gage for his part tied for most targets in week one and third in targets in week 2. And while Gage didn’t get his 100 receiving yards in week 2, he did get a receiving touchdown and would have had a passing touchdown if Julio Jones hadn’t dropped the ball. The Falcons defense is bad, ranking near the bottom in every statistical category that matters including 24th in yardage allowed and 28th against the pass.

This means Ryan will be passing a lot. After two weeks Gage has shown he is a reliable option in a high passing offense. – @neverenoughglt

RB Wayne Gallman (NYG) 1% Yahoo! Ownership

Saquon Barkley‘s fantasy owners may have suffered a bigger loss than the Giants did (considering many of them had more realistic playoff aspirations than the NFL squad). If the Giants do not sign a free agent off the streets like Devonta Freeman, I’d expect Gallman to get the majority of early-down work over Dion Lewis. Gallman filled in admirably when called upon last year at this time, burning the Football Team — then known as the Redskins — for 118 scrimmage yards and two scores when Barkley was sidelined. – @RobertBlock07

RB Jerrick McKinnon (SF) 23% Yahoo! Ownership

With both Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman expected to miss multiple weeks, the once murky 49er backfield has become clearer by default. Jerrick McKinnon, who has scored a TD in both games this season, will now take the lead role — something he was expected to do two years ago when he signed a big contract. I also like Jeff Wilson Jr. as a TD dependent option as the goal-line running back. – @GeoffLambert77

WR Corey Davis (TEN) 42% Yahoo! Ownership

Is this the year Corey Davis finally hits in fantasy? If so he is off to a good start. He is at 10 receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown through two games this season and has scored double-digit fantasy points in each game this year. – @reynoldst5858

WR KJ Hamler (DEN) 1% Yahoo! Ownership

With the news that Courtland Sutton is out for the year and Drew Lock suffering from a shoulder cuff injury this offense may be in trouble. No need to fear, some of the best places to look for sleepers is on teams that will be playing from behind often.

The Broncos appear to be heading in that direction which opens the door for the rookie to compete with Jerry Jeudy, who also sustained a rib injury Sunday. In his debut, he hauled in 3 of his 7 targets (Tied with Jeudy for most) and had a rushing attempt. Stash now before it is too late. – @shawn_sulli5

WR Michael Pittman Jr. (IND) 15% Yahoo! Ownership

The Colts rookie WR is just another player whose playing time should increase due to an injury. With the news that Paris Campbel is out with a PCL injury, Michael Pittman should see an expanded role in the offense. During week 2, Pittman led the Colts receivers in offensive snaps played at 92%.

He also tied for the team lead in Red Zone targets last game. So we have already seen Pittman begin to take over. Now it’s the time to grab him on the cheap before a potentially explosive performance against the Jets in week 3. – @SenraSays

RB Darrell Henderson (LAR) 32% Yahoo! Ownership

After a disappointing week one that saw Henderson limited to five snaps, a Cam Akers injury cracked the door open for Henderson and he busted through it full steam ahead. Henderson rushed 12 times for 81 yards and a touchdown and added two catches for 40 yards to total 20.10 PPR points.

If given a significant amount of touches, Henderson has proved he can produce. Keep an eye out for the injury news regarding Akers and Malcolm Brown, because how long either or both are out will drastically change the value of Henderson. If both are ok, I like Henderson a lot less. But if a three-headed backfield can be trimmed down to two or even one, there is a lot better chance of Henderson being able to offer consistent value. – @GMenJay

QB Justin Herbert (LAC) 3% Yahoo! Ownership

This is specifically a Superflex QB league. I would put a high priority on Justin Herbert. Sooner or later he will overtake the job. – @TheFantasyGPod

TE Drew Sample (CIN) 1% Yahoo! Ownership

Uzomah is injured for the season, who was a target hog for TEs (11 in two weeks), specifically in the RZ (3 targets). Enter Sample, who displayed good hands and rapport with Burrow with nine targets last week. A bad Cincy defense means more opportunities for passing and Sample. – @ricco_3733

WR Keelan Cole (JAX) 3% Yahoo! Ownership

With all the hype this offseason going to Laviska Shunault Jr. and D.J. Chark (I was Dede Westbrooks biggest hype man), Keelan Cole (running more than 50% of his routes from the slot) is the one who has actually led the Wide Receivers in targets (11), yards per target and has back to back games with touchdowns.

Granted the sample size is small, but on a team that is going to rely on it’s offense to keep them in games, Keenan Cole is a must-add in 12 man leagues and deeper. – @FFJunkie85

RB Mike Davis (CAR) 5% Yahoo! Ownership

This is a fairly obvious add considering the injury to Christian McCaffrey, who is projected to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Davis will probably be the most added player this week, especially with him displaying his ability in the passing game. After replacing McCaffrey, he caught 8 passes for 74 yards. – @Shawn_Sulli5

RB Devonta Freeman (FA) 13% Yahoo! Ownership

We might as well change this past Sunday’s name to bloody Sunday. What a plethora of injuries we witnessed. Some fantasy cornerstones went down with significant injuries. For those who own Saquan Barkley, you have my sympathies.

With that said, the waiver wire has a ton of upside options for you to bounce back from. Granted no one is going to provide the upside Barkley was going to. Devonta Freeman had a scheduled visit today with the NY Giants and it is only a matter of time before he signs with a team.

Last year, on 243 total touches, Freeman had 1006 total yards and just 6 touchdowns. his average YPC (3.6), 26th ranked yards created per touch, 28th in evaded tackles were nothing to be excited about but on the right team, he provides RB3 upside. He is worth a speculative add across all formats, however, keep your expectations in check. – @FFJunkie85
