Ultimate Fantasy Rookie Performances to Follow: Week 7

Well if you’re a rookie and you’re typically pretty good, you’re probably either hurt, got hurt, or in the process of joining your hurt friends. Here’s a quick list of my poor rookies who either couldn’t play or got injured during the game:

Jahan Dotson: Hamstring

Chris Olave: Concussion

Treylon Burks: Toe

Christian Watson: Hamstring

Kenny Pickett: Left with a concussion

Dameon Pierce: wrapped in bubble wrap drinking milk at home on a bye

Throw in the fact that Arthur Smith doesn’t let Drake London run routes (probably afraid he’ll get hurt) and Garrett Wilson and Zach Wilson can’t connect, and we’re just missing out on a lot of rookie talent right now. That being said, it opens up the top 5 of the week to four new friends.

For anyone new, rankings are based on fantasy points in a points per reception league.

5. Daniel Bellinger (14.8)

Daniel Bellinger is a guy I’m glad I drafted in the last round of my dynasty league draft. Every week he gets a little bit better and this week it was enough to make the list. Leading the team in targets (5) led to 5 catches, 38 yards and a touchdown. I don’t understand how the Giants keep winning games, but Daniel Bellinger at least seems like he’s a part of that process.

4. Bailey Zappe (17.83)

I’m starting to think that Bill Belichick has a good system for quarterbacks to succeed. If he keeps it up, he just might win a Superbowl someday. With… umm… fine wide receivers, Bailey Zappe went 24/34 for 309 yards and two touchdowns. When he wasn’t throwing, he lost yards. He had 3 runs for -4 yards and a catch for -6 yards. Confused? Me too. Unfortunately, Mac Jones will heal eventually and Zappe will go back to the bench until somebody trades something crazy for him and he falls back into mediocrity.

3. Kenneth Walker III (19)

When Rashaad Penny went down for the season, it opened up a huge opportunity for Kenneth Walker. With 21 carries, Kenneth Walker III had 97 yards and a touchdown. He also had 2 catches for 13 yards. The Seahawks are the highest scoring team in the NFC West (wild), which will give Walker plenty of chances to run the ball (and the clock).

2. Breece Hall (20.1)

Every week Breece Hall’s carries go up. This week it was twenty carries for 116 yards and a touchdown with two little catches. I’m running out of things to say about this guy. Absolute stud.

1. Tyquan Thornton (21.3)

This was the first week of the season that Thornton has really been used. Drafted in the second round for his speed, he has had to sit behind Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and DeVante Parker. Agholor didn’t play and Bourne got hurt, which gave the speedster a chance to show his stuff. Two touchdowns, 4 catches for 37 yards and a couple rushes for another 16 yards was all that he did. There’s too many variables to tell if he’ll be startable in fantasy going forward, but he might be worth a stash if you have space on your bench.
