Week 11 Fantasy Football-Breakout or Fake Out

As it turned out, week ten was yet another unusual week of both NFL and DFS results. These odd occurrences started on Thursday night, with the Dolphins beating the Ravens 22-10, and carried on throughout the weekend, culminating in the 49ers 31-10 beat down of the Rams.

Along the way, stops during this voyage were also made in Pittsburgh(Steelers 16-16 tie with the winless Lions), and in Washington(Football Team defeated the Bucs 29-19). In week eleven, only the Rams and Broncos are on bye. It will be interesting to see if the other thirty teams can assist in less chaotic times across the league.

Week Ten review:

Despite being such a difficult week to forecast, my selections turned out to be rather accurate. Breakout selection Elijah Moore had three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown( 13.4 PPR fantasy points), while both fake out selections, Nyheim Hines( 4 touches for 29 yards and zero touchdowns-4.9 fantasy points), and Donovan Peoples-Jones(1 catch for 16 yards-2.6 fantasy points) turned in duds as expected.

My other two selections, Brandon Aiyuk and Justin Fields, wound up with an incomplete grade. Fields was on bye in week ten, so we will anxiously await his week 11 performance. Aiyuk, on the other hand, had three catches for 26 yards in the 49ers win. Getting out to such a big first half lead( 21-7), Jimmy Garoppolo only had to attempt a total of 19 passes.

BreakOuts:

The Only Waiver Article You Need for Week 11 (2021)

Rhamondre Stevenson(RB-Patriots) preseason darling Stevenson had 20 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns in week ten’s win over the Browns, while replacing normal starter Damien Harris(concussion). Stevenson had started to build a role in week nine against the Panthers , when he had ten carries for 62 yards.

Although Harris returned to practice on Tuesday, it will be interesting to see how backfield touches will be split in Thursday night’s game against the Falcons. With the Patriots playing on a short week, look for Stevenson to have a significant role and finish amongst the top 15 running backs this week.

Michael Gallup(WR-Cowboys) after missing seven games with a calf injury, Gallup returned to the lineup in week ten vs the Falcons. Although he did not have a great game(3 catches for 42 yards) in week ten, his presence in the lineup marks an opportunity for bigger games moving forward.

As the third option on a Cowboys’ team that ranks fourth in the league in passing yards( 294 passing yards per game), Gallup should be utilized as a WR3/flex most weeks moving forward, with the upside for more. He looked very fluid on Sunday, with no apparent signs that the injury was effecting him.

Dan Arnold(TE-Jaguars) for the third consecutive week, Arnold had at least 4 catches and 60 yards receiving(finishing with 5 catches for 75 yards). Although he has still yet to score a touchdown this year, Arnold now has 17 catches( on 24 targets) for 203 yards over that three game span.

With other tight end options struggling to land a permanent spot inside the top ten, Arnold is beginning to find some consistency within his game. In a tough matchup against the 49ers in week eleven, I will take my chances on Arnold scoring double digit fantasy points yet again.

Fake Outs:

Bryan Edwards(WR-Raiders) as the attached article suggests, it is important for the future success of the team for Edwards to find consistency, after Henry Ruggs’ departure due to off field issues. Although the talent seems to be there, I have legitimate concerns that Edwards will reach this level of production without an increase in opportunity.

In week ten, Edwards had three catches(on only four targets) for 88 yards and a touchdown.
The second year pro has now registered 32 catches(on 54 targets) for 627 yards and three touchdowns over his two years combined. In each of the last four games, he has exactly four targets in each game. Until Edwards commands a larger target share, it will be hard to trust him as anything more than a low end WR3/flex.

Ray-Ray McCloud/James Washington(WRs-Steelers) in week ten vs the Lions, McCloud had nine catches(on twelve targets) for 63 yards and zero touchdowns. Meanwhile, Washington had two catches(on 6 targets) for 15 yards and a touchdown. Although both are competent NFL WRs, their production was part of a perfect storm.

As part of the ideal conditions. fellow wide receiver Chase Claypool missed the game with a
toe injury. He returned to a limited practice on Wednesday, so his week 11 availability is uncertain at this point in time. Meanwhile, QB Mason Rudolph attempted 50 passes for a team that averages 37 pass attempts per game.

Even if Claypool sits again, it is unlikely fantasy managers see another game with 50 pass attempts or more. Both McCloud and Washington are best left on the waiver wire, except in the deepest of leagues.
