Week 13 Fantasy Football Streamers: QB, TE and Team Defense

Before diving into the quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 13, let’s see how Week 12’s streamers did (Yahoo!, scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Gardner Minshew-15.64 points
Tight End: Isaiah Likely-6 points
Team Defense: Tennessee Titans
10 points

Week 13 is an ill-timed tough bye week for fantasy football owners, with six teams (Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants) idle and the playoffs on the horizon.

Here are Week 13’s quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers.

Quarterback: Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints vs. Detroit Lions

Carr went 24-for-38 for 304 yards with no touchdowns and an interception against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12. It’s often not pretty to watch, but in each of the last six games he has finished he has topped 300 yards or thrown multiple passing touchdowns.

In Week 13 Carr gets the Detroit Lions. who are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season (Yahoo! scoring). Three of the last five quarterbacks they’ve faced have topped 265 passing yards with multiple touchdown passes, and one of the others (Justin Fields, spurred by over 100 rushing yards) topped 21 fantasy points against them. Their lack of pass rush pressure has been well-documented.

There is a big concern for Carr this week. He is in line to be operating with a thinned wide receiving corps on Sunday. Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (quad) left last week’s game, and Michael Thomas (knee) is on IR.

It’s not a great week for quarterback streamers, much to the chagrin of Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen owners who have a need. So, to borrow from the “The Fantasy Footballers”, I’m “sending in the Carr.”

Others To Consider: Gardner Minshew at Tennessee Titans; Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday night); Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos at Houston Texans; Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams vs. Cleveland Browns; Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers (check health); Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Tight End: Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Freiermuth returned from IR in Week 11, and did not do much (one catch for seven yards). In Week 12, coincidentally or not with the Steelers firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada, he had nine catches (on 11 targets) for 120 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Overall, the Arizona Cardinals have not been nearly as generous to tight ends this year as they have been in the past. But they have allowed a touchdown to the position in four of their last five games, and they are toward the bottom in targets allowed to tight ends for the season. So it’s not a rough matchup this week for Freiermuth.

Freiermuth should not be expected to see 11 targets again on Sunday, but his target share is not going to totally evaporate either. Just under the general line (50 percent rostered) to be a streamer, the Steelers’ tight end is the easy pick here this week.

Others To Consider: Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins (check availability); Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints vs. Detroit Lions; Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers; Tyler Conklin, New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons

Team Defense: Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets

The Falcons only had one sack against the New Orleans Saints in Week 12, but being stingy in the red zone (five field goals, 15 points allowed) and a pick-six by safety Jessie Bates landed him at 12 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring). Prior to that, they had multiple sacks in five straight games with at least one takeaway in the last four of those.

In Week 13 the Falcons get the soft matchup that is the New York Jets’ offense, which will be led by Tim Boyle for at least one more week. In Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins, the Jets scored just seven offensive points as Boyle threw two interceptions (one a pick-six) and was sacked seven times. They have scored single-digit offensive points in three of their last four games, and no more than 13 points in five straight.

There are some good team defense streaming options out there this week. but the Falcons get the nod. They are in the absolutely fail-safe position of facing an inept offense, with a starting quarterback that is not worthy of an NFL roster spot.
