Week 2 NFL Fantasy Football: Who To Start, Who To Sit

1: Start QB Carson Wentz

The young Philadelphia Eagles QB looked like a 10 year veteran against the Washington Redskins last week. He was 26 of 39 passing for 307 yards and 2 TDs. He showed poise when his Oline’s pass protection broke down a few times against a relentless Washington front seven. While Carson Wentz showed off his escapability in week 1, expect him to be able to stay poised in the pocket in Week 2 against The Chiefs No. 18 ranked defense. His line will have gelled by then. Wentz has weapons on offense to throw to. The chemistry should be better in week 2 between Carson Wentz, and WRs Alshon Jeffry, and Torrey Smith. While Jeffry still played well, he’s capable of much more. Torrey Smith roasted CB Josh Norman a few times in week 1 proving that he is still a legitimate deep threat for Wentz to go to. (Wentz just slightly overthrew him on what would have been a 60 yard TD bomb.) While TE Zach Ertz remains the go-to guy for Wentz expect him to spread the ball around a lot more in week 2. Look for Wentz to complete more deep shots down the field against The Kansas City Chiefs In week 2. The matchup to watch for in this game: WRs Alshon Jeffry, Torrey Smith, and Nelson Agholor against whatever backup Safety The Chiefs decide to play in place of injured Pro Bowl Safety Eric Berry. Look for QB Carson Wentz to throw for 350 yards and 3 TDs. Final Score Prediction: The Eagles come away victorious 35 to 26. Update: The Eagles lost a nailbiter but QB Carson Wentz threw for 333 yards and 2 Tds. I was only 17 yards and 1 TD off. My Grade: A

2: Sit Kansas City Chiefs Defense

As previously stated The Chiefs lost Safety Eric Berry. He is not just their best Safety. He was their defensive captain. That’s not their only problem. While their Defensive line can create pressure against a team like The New England Patriots they’ll be facing a stout offensive line in week 2 when they play the Eagles. Expect DL Justin Houston to face some double teams in this matchup. The Chiefs went into Foxboro and came away with a huge 42 to 27 victory. That said they were playing a team missing it’s number one WR in Julian Edelman and an Oline that has also faced some injuries. The Philadelphia Eagles have both Their No. 1 WR Alshon Jeffry ready to go along with TE Zach Ertz who has emerged as a top 5 TE in the NFL. Let’s not forget that there is a reason The Chiefs defense is ranked 18 overall. They’re still average at CB, Their DL has one consistent playmaker in Justin Houston and the strength of their defense, the Safety position is now a viable weakness.  They gave up 391 yards of total offense and three TDs to the Patriots. I think they’ll give up more yards this week to the Eagles. Final Score Prediction: the Eagles win 35 to 26. Update: They won 27-20 over the Eagles, but gave up nearly 500 yards of offense, however they did notch 6 sacks. My Grade: B

3: Start QB Marcus Mariota

The Jacksonville Jaguars played very well against a Texans team with no identity at QB. This week they face one with pro bowl potential. This is a favorable matchup for Mariota who threw for 256 yards and lead his team to two scoring drives in a tough loss to the Raiders in week one. Mariota has all the tools, and a plethora of offensive weapons to throw to such WRs Eric Dekker, and rookie first rd. pick Corey Davis. He has one of the NFL’s best RBs to hand the ball off to in Demarco Murray. I’m well aware that the Jaguars have a good secondary, and came up with 10 sacks against the Texans in week one. The Tennesee Titans have a stout line and will be able to keep Mariota upright. Let’s not forget that he can also escape pressure and run with the football. Look for Mariota to throw for a little over 300 yards and 2 Tds while running for an additional 50 yards in a close Titans win. Final score prediction: The Titans win 28 to 21. Update: Mariota only threw for 1 TD, but threw for 215 yards, and ran for another 25. I was close. Not Close enough. My grade: C

4: Start Raven’s Defense

The Raven’s Defense shut out the Bengals in week one 20 to 0. They forced QB Andy Dalton to turn the ball over five times. This Baltimore defense lead by LB Terrell Suggs could be historically good this year. QB Andy Dalton is a franchise QB who has A.J. Green at WR and Giovanni Bernard at RB. These are all accomplished players who have been to the playoffs several times. I just thought I’d point that out. The Baltimore Ravens still shut them out. They are playing the Cleveland Browns at home.  Rookie QB Deshone Kizer can actually play, but not well enough to pull off the upset in Baltimore.  Enough said. Final score prediction: The Ravens win 28 to 16. The Ravens held the Browns to 10 points and had 3 Interceptions. My Grade: A

5: Sit Ezekiel Elliot

Why should you sit the NFL’s best RB (on the field) in week 2? Because they’re facing the No. 3 ranked defensive line in the NFL. The Cowboys may have a top 10 Oline but The Broncos Dline can make any team’s offensive line look like the worst in the NFL on any given NFL Sunday. With LB/DE Von Miller, LB Shane Ray, and DE Derek Wolfe, you could make the argument that they have the best defensive line in The league and I think they’re going to make life miserable for Zeke in this game. Pro Bowl LB/DE Von Miller should limit Elliot to minimal gains and will be after QB Dak Prescott (who did not play well in week 1) all day. It is also never easy for any team to play well at Mile High Stadium. Final Score Prediction: The Broncos win 31 to 16.

Update: The best RB in the NFL (on the field) ran for only 8 yards on 9 carries for 0.9 yards per carry average. That’s historically bad for Zeke. The Broncos won 42 to 17. I was right in my prediction that the Broncos would blow out the reeling Cowboys. Of course, my sit  Ezekiel Elliot prediction is the reason I will be giving myself a high grade. My Grade: A
