Why Dak Prescott is Not the Next Tom Brady

Rayne Dakota Prescott a.k.a. Dak Prescott has been one of the most impressive NFL rookies in a while.  Drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft by the Dallas Cowboys, I would venture to guess that Prescott was not only just happy to be drafted but happy to sit behind starting quarterback, Tony Romo, and learn a thing or two.  When Prescott was called on to replace Romo in week 3 of the preseason to due to an injury and was named the starting QB going into the 2016-2017 season he suddenly found himself calling the shots instead of watching from the sideline.  In five games as a regular season starter, Prescott has no interceptions, 4 touchdowns and is averaging 240 yards per game.  He’s playing like a rookie with nothing to lose but looks like a veteran with poise and control.  He is playing so well that fans are wondering if the writing is on the wall for Romo.  Could the love affair between Romo and the Cowboys be coming to an end?  Shake magic eight ball here… all signs point to yes.

But not only are people wondering if Romo should start looking for another job, silly comparisons between

Prescott and New England Patriot’s QB, Tom Brady are being thrown around.  Who can forget that fateful day in 2002 when Patriot’s QB, Drew Bledsoe, went down with an injury and was replaced by the 199th pick of the 2000 NFL draft, Tom Brady.  Brady and the Patriots never looked back as they made a run and won Super Bowl XXXVI that year, followed by another 5 Super Bowls runs with Brady under center.  Bledsoe never played another down in Boston having once been considered the face of the New England Patriots.  I love a good mystery and even like surprise parties, but this is no suspense thriller (and if you read the title of this article you can probably figure out the end of the story).  There is no way in hell Dak Prescott is the next Tom Brady.

At 23 years young, Prescott is barely out of diapers and sports experts, fans and idiots alike think he is destined to lead the Cowboys to 13 division titles a la Brady and the Patriots?  Come on people.  Not only is it too soon to tell what this kid is really capable of but the comparisons to Brady are just absurd.  Brady has led the Patriots to six Super Bowls, winning four times, the most of any quarterback.  Three Super Bowl MVPs, 2 league MVPs, come back player of the year, the accolades go on and on and on and that’s because Brady may very well be the greatest quarterback of all time (yes, I typed it but I will never say it out loud).  Prescott is playing really well through five weeks and at 4-1 the Cowboys have only lost a squeaker in week one with a final score of 19-20 to the New York Giants.  However, Prescott hasn’t exactly faced the fiercest of competition in those five games: Giants, Redskins, Bears, 49ers, and Bengals.  He’ll be tested this Sunday at Lambeau Field against the Packers so let’s just cool our jets and wait to see if D-Pres can deliver against the likes of Aaron Rogers and Clay Matthews & Co.

Jules Rules:  If you’ve read anything I’ve ever written you know I’m not in the Tom Brady fan club.  I’m nowhere close, in fact, I think the guy is a big cheating cry baby BUT I still have to give props where props are due and what Brady has accomplished over the past 14 years is truly remarkable and we will never see it again.

Football season is back and so is Jules Rules! I'm a die hard Broncos fan and will likely never write anything positive about the Patriots or Redskins. Deal with it.
