Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals
The networks have already dubbed this game “the battle of the first round draft picks” setting up a duel between Burrow and Lawerence. This game is so much more than just these two quarterbacks. I will, however, indulge the narrative.
Burrows has shown a lot of potential But was limited by a bad offense. So far this season, Burrows has tossed for 640 yards, 7 TD, and 4 INT while completing 53/75 passes. The INT number is a little high but he gets a favorable matchup against a terrible jags defense.
Lawrence isn’t having a great start but it’s not entirely his fault. He has no help outside or on the rush attack. The Jags are bad, I’m not going to lie. It’s a success if they win 3 games this season. Meyer clearly has faith in his young padawan by allowing him to throw the ball 118 times despite only completing 64 passes. On the upside, he does have 5 TD, 7 INTs, and 669 yards. The Jaguars know they weren’t making the playoffs so might as well let him throw the ball around.
The Bengals have every advantage including home-field advantage. Drafting Chase has proved to be vital to the success of the Bengals. Chase has a whopping 11 receptions, 220 yards and 4 touchdowns. The deep ball connection they had in LSU is proving valuable in the NFL. Mixon is also having a great season with 67 touches for 286 yards and 1 TD.
The Bengals are obviously the favorite to win this game. The question is whether or not the Bengals cover the -7.5. My first thought is to take the -7.5 and not to overthink this. The Bengals defense is way better than the Jaguars defense and I think at the end of the day, better defense will allow the Bengals to cover. I’m thinking the Bengals win by 10. -7.5 is the play although I’m not dropping a lot on this game. Feels like the NFL is laying a trap card with this game. I’m not in love with this play.
