CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 15

As we enter Week 15 of the CFL season, it fully feels like fall football. That can make playing Daily Fantasy Sports contests even more fun. However, we do have a condensed week of Canadian football as there are only three games on the schedule. That means a shrinking pool of teams and players compared to the customary four-game slate. Specifically, that means less players are available at a value cost in DFS. So it is even more important than ever to select the best price ranges of players on the DraftKings platform.

Quarterback

Jake Maier (CGY) $9,500 vs BC

Each of the three CFL games this week has a heavily favored team. Influencing those lines is the fact that each of the favorites has the more stable, and capable QB. And it is among those three quarterbacks that I want to choose for the majority of my DFS lineups. Not surprisingly, those are the three most expensive quarterbacks on the DraftKings cost list. However, Jake Maier is the only one of those elite three that is priced below $10K. Last Week, I wrote up Maier as a value play. Even with a $900 cost increase, I still believe that is the case.

The previous two weeks, Maier has failed to hit 20 fantasy points in either contest. However, both of those games were against Edmonton. Certainly, the most recent matchup was a 28-point blowout where Maier was not needed much. Even with the QB uncertainty in BC, I believe this will be a more closely contested game. If Calgary needs to pass a lot to ensure a victory in Week 15, look for Maier to put up the fantasy points like we saw in his first start this season. With the news the the Stampeders may be without their long-time kicker, there is perhaps more likelyhood of the team Going For 2. Maier is the only QB I am recommending this week with the condensed schedule. With only 3 games to chose from, options are limited and I would ideally like to have Maier in the majority of lineups.

Running Back

Frankie Hickson (SSK) $6,800 vs EDM

To concentrate most lineup on the three most expensive quarterbacks will require some savings elsewhere. In recent weeks, my favorite position to mine value is at the RB spot. And Frankie Hickson has been tremendous as a workhorse back for under $5K. That is, until now. Hickson is still my favorite value play at RB simply because there is no one better on the slate. Any of the more established running backs are significantly more expensive, and those below Hickson’s price range pose far too many risks. Even with an elevated cost, Hickson falls in the best price range to go after running backs.

Like in the QB section, I am only going with 1 RB this week. On the DraftKings CFL format, there is only 1 RB needed in lineups, so I will follow that format here.

Wide Receiver

Malik Henry (CGY) $9,000 vs BC

Jake Maier has quickly found his favorite target. In each of the three games that Maier has started at QB, it has been the same Calgary pass-catcher playing the role of the go-to-guy. Malik Henry led the team in targets during each of those three matches. And not just tops in targets but by a sizable amount. Henry has 29 targets in the previous three games. The next closest Stampeders receiver has 19. So clearly Henry is the alpha of this passing attack.

Henry has made the most of his opportunities, especially on scoring plays. He has 4 TD catches from Maier so far this season, and he could certainly find the end zone in Week 15. Henry is no stranger to producing WR #1 overall numbers for any given game. He has that potential most weeks, and is constantly unpriced. While he finally hit $9K, Henry still comes in at a value on the slate. This is relative to his teammates, but also with regard to all wide receivers this week.

Nic Demski (WPG) $8,900 @ HAM

Nic Demski is another player that I have tabbed as value multiple times the season. With only three games on the slate this week, Demski is one of the players I first looked towards when creating lineups. He provides the opportunity to get a consistent piece of the explosive Winnipeg offense. Yet, he costs less than $9K which allows for good lineup flexibility. As the anchor WR, he can operate as a great option in cash games. But he can also fit well into GPP lineups paired with an elite WR option.

Keon Hatcher (BC) $7,800 @ CGY

The BC Lions wide receivers have all steadily increased in price. With several of his teammates in five-digits when it comes to DraftKings cost, Keon Hatcher actually provides an affordable way to get into the Lions passing attack. What makes Hatcher a good value option is his big-play ability. His lack of consistency probably makes him someone to avoid in cash games. However, he could thrive in GPP contests if he quickly gains a connection with his new QB.

Kyran Moore (SSK) $6,800 vs EDM

To a certain extend, Kyran Moore is similar to Nic Demski. Both play primarily as slot backs, allowing them to rack up catches. For a full-point per reception format like DraftKings, this can be quite the advantage. Moore offers a sub-$7K price tag as an entry to the Saskatchewan offense. In fact, he comes in at the same price as the Roughriders RB (who was mentioned earlier in the article). However, unlike Demski, there is less weekly upside ewither through yards after the catch or touchdowns. Therefore, I would prefer to play Moore only in cash or 50/50 games.

Deep Dive

Jalin Marshall (EDM) $2,900 @ SSK

With the news that Edmonton will be getting their starting QB back, this is a good week to get some exposure to the offense. Jalin Marshall offers that at an extremely affordable cost below $3K. Being able to plug in a player at that price opens up the ability to pay up in several other spots. Marshall has also been used as a kick returner. So even if he is not getting many targets in the passing game, he won’t put up a complete 0 either. Whether, it’s cash games or GPP tournaments, Marshall has a chance to contribute as a punt play.

Defense

Winnipeg Blue Bombers $5,200 @ HAM

Thanks to players in the deep dive price range, it is possible to have your cake and eat it to. There are viable lineups with an elite QB, some really good receivers, and a top tier defense. Winnipeg is not only the best team in the CFL, but they are about to play arguably the worst. There is some solace for Hamilton, with the potential return of their starting QB. However, that QB is largely responsible for the Tiger-Cats’ league worst turnover rate. Whether it’s interceptions or fumbles, look for this Hamilton team to cough up the football. And with only three games on the slate, this is the best time to pay for a defense that can truly force those turnovers.

Calgary Stampeders $4,400 vs BC

Calgary comes in as my favorite value defense of the week. The BC Lions announced their starting QB for the upcoming game. Even with some more stability at QB, this could still be a good week to target the Lions opponent. While talented, the Lions QB can still be turnover prone. And when it comes to picking DFS defenses, turnovers are one of the main characteristics we use to target offenses.
