MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 5/23/2017

Top Plays
Clayton Kershaw
Kershaw will get the Cardinals in Dodger Stadium. The Cardinals strike out 22.2% of the time against lefties and rank just 22nd in wRC+. Kershaw is a lock for me nearly every time he pitches and this is no exception. He’s the largest favorite and has the lowest OTT by a full run. He’s priced up at $13,400 on DraftKings, but I’ll play him in cash and save the fading for tournaments.
Lance McCullers
McCullers is the second largest favorite and has the second lowest OTT. He’s been great in the month of May allowing just two earned runs in four starts. The Tigers strike out 22.3% of the time against righties, eighth highest in the league. He’s my favorite tournament option, but I’d rather pay for Kershaw in cash.
Paul Goldschmidt/Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks will face Dylan Covey in Chase Field. They have a team run total of six runs, highest on the slate by a full run. Covey has a 12.8% strikeout rate, and has given up 2.80 HR/9 to start the year. His HR/FB ratio is roughly double the league average, meaning it should regress as the season continues, but I have a hard time believing the regression will start against the Diamondbacks. Goldschmidt is the top hitter on the entire slate, and I’ll be loading up on Diamondbacks hitters in both cash games and tournaments.
Andrew Benintendi/Mookie Betts
Benintendi will face Andrew Cashner in Fenway Park. He’s priced at just $3,900 on DraftKings and should hit in a great lineup spot to drive in some runs. The Red Sox have a team run total of five runs, and Benintendi should be right in the middle of the run production. Mookie Betts may be hard to fit in your cash game lineups if you’re playing both Kershaw and Goldschmidt, but I love him for tournaments. He has the fifth highest stolen base projection on the slate, and should be able to get on base multiple times.
Notes
Jon Lester is a solid SP2 against the Giants who have a 78 wRC+ against lefties, sixth worst in the league.
Matt Harvey is my favorite SP2 to pair with Kershaw at this point in the day.
Allen Cordoba, Manuel Margot, Rickie Weeks, Justin Ruggiano, and Kole Calhoun are all solid punts if they’re hitting at the top of the order.
