2021 Dynasty Rookie Draft Projection | Early 1st

Bottom Line

Overall, Justin Fields is one of the best quarterbacks of this draft class and deserves at the very least, a look for the top overall selection. He brings his incredible arm talent paired with elusive running ability. This could make him a problematic quarterback to face at the next level. He will have some rough outings early if he is selected by the New York Jets, especially since he will be squaring off against a young quarterback bully in Bill Belichick twice a year. I expect there to be some growing pains similar to Kyler Murray‘s rookie year.

I get comparing him to Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes can seem like a stretch, but hear me out. As prospects they possess a similar skill set: the ability to throw the ball with speed and accuracy, pushes the ball deep often, dangerous when throwing the ball on the run, and has a knack for being able to pick up chunks of yards with their feet. Watching the film you will see that Fields also had very fast receivers as does Mahomes in Kansas City. From what I have seen from their perspective college film is that Fields displayed much better accuracy when launching the ball downfield, whereas Mahomes often overthrew his receivers. I won’t claim that Fields will have the same level of success as the best quarterback in the NFL currently, but he can be a top-10 quarterback for years to come if he is surrounded by the right players and coaches.

For me, I am ranking Fields above Trevor Lawrence in all formats, especially dynasty. Luckily, I probably will not need to even have the 1.01 pick to grab him. His skillset alone will bring fantasy owners success long-term. I still question how much of Clemson’s success was a result of Lawrence’s play or just an excellent system designed for offensive players to be successful.
