5 NFL Draft Predictions that Will Definitely, Maybe Happen

Every year mock drafts are published, talked about on podcasts, radio, and sports TV shows. Guys like Mel Kiper and Todd Mcshay have made a living analyzing the draft based on team needs.

You know what we all have in common?

They are all wrong!

Trying to get inside the head of an NFL team reminds me of the scene in The Departed when Billy Costigan completes the academy and has his first interview.

Queenan [during Costigan’s interview]  Do you know what we do here? My section?

Billy Costigan Sir, yes, sir. I have an idea…

Dignam [interrupting]  Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let’s say you have no idea and leave it at that, okay? No idea. Zip. None. If you had an idea of what we do, we would not be good at what we do, now would we? We would be c***. Are you calling us c***?

Since I am going to be wrong with any prediction that I make. I’ll make some wild, outlandish predictions that have some truth.

Vikings select a cornerback in the first round

Minnesota has selected seven corners in the past five years. I’m cherry-picking here. I need at least one of these to work out for my credibility.

Chiefs trade up and select Rashawn Slater in the first round

The Super Bowl was a painful reminder for the Chiefs that games are won and lost in the trenches. After Penei Sewell is drafted in the top five the Chiefs trade up to take the Northwestern standout in the top 10.

Falcons trade back into the first round and select Mac Jones

This prediction counts on the Falcons either drafting a non-QB or trading down. Personally, I’m taking Penei Sewell with this pick for a few reasons. For starters, Humans that large do not grow on trees, and two as alluded to before games are still won in the trenches. Also, every year a quarterback falls during the draft. Jordan Love in 2020, Dwayne Haskins in 2019, Lamar Jackson in 2018. This year it’s Mac Jones. Once Jones starts to fall past the middle of the first round the Falcons get aggressive and trade back into the first round.

Lions select linebacker Zaven Collins in the first round

Former Detroit Linebacker Chris Spielman is heavily involved in the front office as well. Team pages have him listed as the special assistant to the owner and CEO. Well, guess who has the owner’s ear? Yep, that’s right Spielman. Linebacker is definitely the pick here.

49ers draft Justin Fields

Shocker right? Most mock drafts have the 49ers selecting Quarterback Mac Jones with the third overall pick. This is a smokescreen. I get it, the reasoning behind Mac Jones. Kyle Shannon has had success with pure pocket passers such as Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub. Justin Fields can throw like all three of those quarterbacks — plus he can run. Justin Fields is Matt Ryan with wheels.
