5/17/2016 Fanduel MLB Lineup Advice

[do_widget “mailpoet subscription form”]

Tuesday is ace day! That means that a lot of marquee names are on display on the mound, like Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, and Max Scherzer fresh off his record-tying 20 strikeout performance. It’s going to be very important to find value batters to fit these pitchers in your lineup, so be sure to watch as lineups are released throughout the afternoon. Let’s get into some of my favorite plays for the main slate on Fanduel for Tuesday evening!

Pitchers

Cole Hamels, TEX ($10,400) – I’m avoiding the obvious big names at the top of the pitching list and starting my recommendations with Hamels going up against the weak Oakland Athletics team in their pitcher-friendly park. Athletics hitters are tied for the worst OPS in the AL, and they strikeout at an above average rate. There’s a lot to like about the former Phillie tomorrow, including a nice potential for that important 12-point win. If you’re looking for a cheaper option than the top-tier guys but still want an elite arm give Hamels a look.

Marcus Stroman, TOR ($7,900) – The Jays ace has pitched much better in three May starts (1-0, 2.14 ERA) and he looks to keep that string of success going Tuesday at home against a pedestrian Tampa Bay squad. The Rays are 28th in the MLB in runs scored and are entrenched in the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. Couple that with their high tendency to strike out, and Stroman becomes a stellar play in all lineups tomorrow. The young hurler has started to find his swing-and-miss form recently, as he has posted 22 strikeouts over his last three starts. $7,900 is a steal for Stroman tomorrow, but the only obstacle he faces is matching up with Tampa Bay’s ace Chris Archer.

Other options: Kyle Hendricks (CHC), Wei-Yin Chen (MIA), Zack Greinke (ARI)

Hitters

Manny Machado, SS, BAL ($3,900) – This is a pretty obvious pick here, since we are all pretty well aware that Manny Machado is a stud. However, his matchup is extra juicy on Tuesday evening facing southpaw Wade Miley. The Mariners veteran pitcher has an ERA over a run higher on the road, and has given up 7 home runs and a .290 batting average to right-handed hitters. Machado, and all Orioles righties for that matter, should be given consideration tomorrow in a plus matchup with a high homerun potential.

Victor Martinez, C, DET ($3,400) – Twins righty Phil Hughes is really struggling to start the 2016 season, so I am looking to pick on him and hope he continues the trend. Hughes is allowing a .354 batting average to lefty hitters so far this year, and switch-hitting Victor Martinez is hitting a sizzling .369 from the left side of the plate. This is panning out as a must play, and is certainly a good way to get some Tigers exposure on this big slate with so many options.

Kris Bryant, 3B, CHC ($4,300) – I love taking advantage of pitchers that have some pretty alarming splits, and Brewers projected starter Chase Anderson falls into that category. He has some staggering “reverse splits,” as he pitches better on the road and against left-handed batters. Usually those numbers are the opposite for a right-handed starter. KB is hitting 50 points higher against righties, and he also has 11 more RBI against right handed starters. All signs point to a Cubs stack tomorrow, and Bryant will be right in the middle of that lineup with ample opportunity to produce.

Other options: Andrew McCutchen – OF (PIT), Steven Moya – OF (DET), Adrian Gonzalez – 1B (LAD), Kolten Wong – 2B (STL)
