Well once again, Football proves to be as unpredictable as ever. Arian Foster has torn his groin, leaving a gaping hole in the Texans Backfield. Who will fill in you ask? Well, the obvious Choice would be Alfred Blue. However, Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk lay in wait to steal the job. along with a handful of veteran backs still looking for jobs, like Pierre Thomas who visited the Texans today.

Alfred Blue

Naturally, you have to expect the Foster injury should thrust Blue into a lead back role. Unfortunately, is it also possible that this backfield just became too cloudy and multiple backs will be used throughout the season. In other words, the dreaded committee could be in charge.

Blue wasn’t all that impressive last season, as he compiled a meek 3.1 yards per carry. Furthermore, he too was carted off the field for cramps during the first padded practice, the very same day Foster was lost to a serious groin injury. While that isn’t a significant injury, the fact that he is already getting banged up is disheartening.

With that said, Blue is going to get every opportunity to be the leading fantasy scorer for this Texans backfield. Can he be that guy? It remains to be seen. Before Foster went down, I had Blue ranked 60th. With Foster out of the line up, he climbs my ranks to 32nd. Although, he will receive a larger body of work, he will likely will find himself as the chairman of the next dreaded NFL committee. He will then likely have to share the load with Polk, who also has the potential to vulture his Goaline carries, therefore, he is a RB3 with RB2 upside.

Chris Polk

Chris Polk made the move from Philadelphia to Houston, now he finds himself in an intriguing situation. In the post Foster world that is Houston, there will be plenty of opportunity for Polk to showcase his talents.

Even though Chris Polk has just 57carries in his career, what he has been able to do in those 57 carries is impressive. He holds a YPC of 4.7, with 7 touchdowns. At a minimum he is going to steal all the goaline work. Chris Polk finds his way onto my RB top 100. I give him a ranking of 62nd, but the arrow is pointing up and he could end up being a massive value on draft day.

Jonathan Grimes

Grimes has been in the NFL for 3 years, he has a career YPC of 3.7 and 1 TD. He has a way of just fading into the background. I’m not expecting much from him, he shouldn’t have any fantasy impact.

In closing, we must keep in mind, that there is a chance the Texans can sign a running back before the seasons begins. Further throwing this backfield into chaos. It may be safer to proceed as if the Texans have taken a year off from the NFL and try to steer your roster clear of what is looking to be a messy and low producing offense. The Foster injury steals value from every fantasy asset on the Texans ledger.
