Quarterbacks

Start

Tyrod Taylor-Bills

He has been a solid starter as the QB for the Bills. Besides making the throws, he is able to scramble and accumulates quite a few points that way. Of course, I like him even more if Watkins is in the lineup.

On the surface his week 4 numbers aren’t looking overly impressive. If you watched the game though, you saw that he had 2 TDs called back on penalties. Potential for the big game is always a possibility.

This week he draws a matchup against the Titans. On average, the Titans allow roughy 2 touchdowns a game to QBs, so i’m expecting a big day, especially considering he is going to score with his legs as well as his arm.

Joe Flacco-Ravens

Flacco is an interesting player, he never stands out as a guy that you have to have in your lineup, but, if you can get him in the right matchup, he makes for an excellent start.

On the season he has just over 1,000 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. We want to see that Interception number go down before we can truly feel good about starting him.

This week he gets a matchup against the Browns. If we look back at history, we will see that Flacco doesn’t usually score a lot of points against the Browns. However, this season the Browns are particularly bad against QBs, allowing an average of just over 24 fantasy points per game to QBs.

Alex Smith-Chiefs

Alex Smith is a game manager in every sense of the word. He doesn’t give the ball away, That is a plus, nothing is more annoying than when your playing a matchup and your QB keeps turning the ball over.

He has just over 1,100 yards on the season, he also has 5 Touchdowns and 4 interceptions. I agree that the INT number is a little higher than we would like to see, but, we hope in a good matchup he can protect the ball.

This week he gets the Bears defense, which has pretty much been the definition of a leaky defense. On the surface, the Bears defense looks pretty decent against QBs, but, if you dig deeper, you will learn that they are averaging 2.5 touchdowns a game to QBs.

Blake Bortles-Jaguars

Blake Bortles always makes for an interesting option to start, because, he is very streaky. He can go from throwing touchdowns to throwing multiple interceptions, this year though, we are seeing more of the Good Bortles than the bad. He proved last week that he is still a good start when the matchup is right.

On the season Bortles has just under 1000 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. That’s a pretty good start for an inconsistent QB like Bortles.

This week he gets a matchup against a very poor Buc’s defense. These guys can’t stop anyone one this season. Winston’s propensity to turn the ball over could also put him in some short field situations. This isn’t a scary matchup, Tampa, on average, allows 2 TDs a game to QBs.

Sit

Andy Dalton-Bengals

He has gotten off to a great start and the Bengal’s offense, as a whole, has been on fire. He has started the season with 1,187 yards, 9 touchdowns and just one interception.
However, a four game hot streak does not make him matchup proof. The Legion Of Boom will be waiting for him this Sunday. The only benefit he will have this week is that he is playing at home.

The Legion Of Boom has been frustrating QBs over the past few weeks. They have only allowed opposing QBs just under 16 pts per game.

Matthew Stafford– Lions

This has been a disappointing start of the season for Matthew Stafford. The Lions offense, as a whole, has failed to get off the ground. He has started off the season with just over 1,000 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He has to be more careful with the ball.

It’s not going to get any easier for him this week as Patrick Peterson and the Arizona Cardinals await him. Last year, against this secondary, he only had 183 yards. The Cardinals have aloud the 5th fewest fantasy points to QBs.

Wide Receivers

Start

Jeremy Maclin-Chiefs

The Chiefs are an offense that is going to move the ball on bad defenses. Alex smith is too careful to make many mistakes. So bad defenses find themselves on the field quite long.

The Bears secondary has looked like garbage this year and I see no reason for this to change. Their problem isn’t scheme or coaching, it’s a lack of personnel and you can’t fix that.

Coming into this matchup, Maclin has posted 28/398/1. We would like to see more TDs going his way, but, Alex Smith is afraid to throw to his WRs in the endzone. Additionally, the Bears allow the 6th most fantasy points to QBs this year.

Allen Robinson-Jaguars

I know over the past 2 weeks we haven’t seen the big numbers we were expecting out of him, but, a large part of that is due to matchups. He has gone up against some of the better corners in the league over the last 2 weeks.

On the season he has 15/338/2, we would like to see a little more consistency in terms of how many balls a game he catches. With that said, he is still a very talented WR with a plus matchup.

The Bucs lack that shutdown corner to cover Robinson. I’m expecting him to find plenty of room to operate in this one.

Leonard Hankerson-Falcons

He has been a pleasant surprise for all the GMs that took a chance on him and added him to their rosters. There really isn’t a question about it, he is the Falcons #2 WR and Roddy White can cry about it until his eyes pop out, that doesn’t change anything.

On the season, hank has logged 17/241/2. Keep in mind, he wasn’t getting WR2 looks in the opening weeks of the season. I would also think that Hankerson will be feeling motivated to perform against his EX team.

On the season the Redskins have suffered some injuries in their secondary. They will be hard pressed to cover Julio Jones in this one. Leaving plenty of room for Hank to do his thing.

John Brown-Cardinals

He has been much more consistent this season, as compared to last season. Last year, if he didn’t catch a bomb, you had no chance at getting the production you needed from him.

This year we have seen a more developed John Brown. Proof of that is the fact that he has yet to catch the big bomb, yet week in and week out he is giving us decent fantasy production. The week he catches the big play you can expect some Monster numbers.

No team has allowed WRs to catch more balls than the Lions. They have given up an insane 41 pts per game to opposing WRs. Start him with confidence this week, he could be a top 15 play at WR.

Rueben Randle-Giants

With Victor Cruz out, Rueben Randle gets a substantial body of work. The problem is that he is a jag, nothing more than just an average player.

However, there is a lot to like about him this week. He gets a matchup against the 49ers and let’s be honest, the 49ers can’t do anything right this year.

Randle currently has 14/175/2, on the season. A large portion of that statline has come from one big game. You have to face it, he is that type of player, he is one good week, 4 bad weeks. This however, has potential to be another big week.

Dontrelle Inman-Chargers

I’m digging deep on this one, we have to keep in mind Stevie Johnson and Malcom Floyd are out for this game. Inman will get the chance to be the #2 WR here. I’m expecting he will look good, based on what we saw in the 2nd half of last week’s game. In that one, he totaled 3 catches for 88 yards.

Sit

Kendall Wright-Titans

I will admit this offense has looked better than I expected it would. Mariota has shown he is capable of moving them down the field and has built a pretty good chemistry with Kendall Wright.

He has opened the season with 13/213/2, you may have gotten some use from him up until now, but, this week he has a matchup against a stingy Bills defense.

Golden Tate-Lions

He has gotten off to a terrible start this year, posting just 18/190/0. The biggest problem for him this year, is that he hasn’t gotten into the endzone yet this season.

I wouldn’t expect any of this to change this week, as they play the Cardinals. The Cardinals secondary is deep and knows how to turn the ball over. If you have other options you might want to consider them.

Amari Cooper-Raiders

The Raiders have gotten off to a decent start. You can see the potential Cooper possesses. He has the ability to dominate a game. On the season he has put up a solid stat line of, 24/339/2.

This week they play against the Broncos defense. The Broncos have been the best defense in the league. If I can avoid playing Cooper into this defense that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Tight End

Start

Charles Clay-Bills

He wasn’t receiving a lot of hype during the pre season. Up until last week he basically would go unnoticed and rightfully so, hevspent the first 3 weeks of the season doing nothing. In week 4 he came to life for the Bills, logging over 100 yards and he had a touchdown called back. The Giants are weak covering the seam and he exposed them.

This week he gets a solid matchup against the Titans. I would not be surprised to see him as a top 5 TE when the smoke clears this week. Furthermore, the Titans have allowed the 7th most points to TEs this year.

Martellus Bennett-Bears

It isn’t hard to see why the Bears have been leaning so heavily on him. They are out of WRs with their top 3 options out of the lineup.
This week he gets a matchup against the Chiefs. They have been pretty good against TEs, but, he is the focal point of this offense and you are guaranteed a high amount of targets.

Owen Daniels-Broncos

He isn’t the most entertaining TE to watch. To be honest, he is basically useless between the 20s. On the season he has posted just 12/61/2, not an impressive stat line.

This week, he gets the lottery matchup for TEs, the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have been flat out terrible against TEs this year. They are the worst defense in the league when it comes covering the TE.

I would expect he is going to have a ton of success in the redzone this week. I almost want to guarantee a touchdown this week. Truth is, this could be a Multi TD game.

Larry Donnell-Giants

While most weeks i’m going to advise you not to start this guy. This week I’m okay with it, he won’t have competition for targets as far as the TEs are concerned.

Furthermore, the 49ers are just terrible in every facet of the game, defense included. Even though on paper, they appear to be better than half the league against TEs, I’m still not scared of this team. The 49ers are coming off the tracks and it will continue to get worse.

Sit

Heath Miller-Steelers

Last week, Vick crushed his value down to nothing. Even if he was in a great matchup he would have to sit out, so we can see what’s going on. It appears with Vick as QB he will be drawing more blocking assignments than targets.

On the season he has posted 13/117/1. This week he gets a matchup against the Chargers. Between Vick’s inability to move this offense and the matchup against the Chargers, it’s a good idea to sit Heath Miller until you’re told different.

Running back

Start

T.J Yeldon– Jaguars

He is coming off quite an impressive game last week. It was his coming out party. He proved he is the most dynamic back the Jaguars have. They will make it a point to feed him the ball to take pressure off Bortles.

Last week he finished up with 105 yards and a few receptions. Had he scored a touchdown we are talking about a monster game. On the year he has totaled 259 yards and 10 receptions. The only stat that is concerning is he has yet to get into the endzone.

I’m not expecting a huge increase in his usage in the passing game, but, he will be featured in the running game. This week he gets a matchup against the Bucs. I could have moderate success running against this defense.

The Bucs give up just over 4 yards a carry, encouraging numbers for Yeldon owners. It equates to about 125 yards and a touchdown, I will take that any week.

C.J Spiller-Saints

Spiller started off the season on the injury report. It kept him from getting out there and showing us what he could do. Last week he won the game for the Saints, in over time, catching an 80 yards pass and taking it to the house.

This week they have a matchup against the Eagles. Just so we are clear, the Eagles defense is overrated along with the rest of their team. They don’t have a player on defense wth enough speed to get up there and break up those quick passes to Spiller.

Sit

Latavius Murray-Raiders

Murray got banged up last week. Last week’s Raider game was not a pretty game to watch, especially if you’re a fan. They couldn’t hang on to a lead and lost to a winless Chicago team.

On the season he has 297 yards and 3 touchdowns, he has also added 18 receptions, not a bad start to the year. This week he gets a matchup against the best defense in the league.

The Denver Broncos are a terrible matchup for all positions, they have been stifling offenses al year. They have shut down every offense and I see no reason for their reign of dominance to end this week.
