Running back

Charcandrick West-Chiefs

Week 5 concludes with Jamaal Charles owners feeling sad.We saw Charles go down this week, on a non contact knee injury. He went to hit a hole and all of a sudden his knee gave out. He tore his ACL and will be done for the season.

Once Charles went down, they immediately looked to Charcandrick West. Kniles Davis, had a much smaller role, than, we are accustomed to seeing when Charles goes down. For me, the question is, who will be the starter in Charles’ absence. After seeing how the Chiefs finished up the game, it is clear West will get the first crack at the starting job.

He hasn’t done too bad this season, totaling 48 yards on 12 attempts, for an average of 4.0 YPC, notwithstanding a small sample size. He has game changing speed, he ran the 40 yard dash in an impressive 4.27 seconds. That’s pretty fast, he will get first crack at the starting duties, but, he will have to work to keep the job, with Davis hot on his trail, it may only take a few mistakes and we could see him back on the bench or in a complimentary role.

Duke Johnson Jr-Browns

The fact that this guy is still available in more than half of yahoo leagues is shocking. He has that explosive ability to make big plays happen. The Browns other running backs, lack that commodity, moving forward, I believe the Browns will make it a point to get the ball into his hands.

On the season, he has 49 attempts, for 121 yards, with a YPC of just 3, but, they have gotten him off to a quick start in the passing game, as he already has 21 receptions.
The bottom line here is, Duke still has a lot to learn about running in the NFL. His YPC should climb by the time the year is over. For those of us in PPR leagues, we need to add this kid now, he has become a major player in the Browns passing game and isn’t going anywhere.

Knile Davis-Chiefs

If you decide to claim Knile Davis, you have to be patient, he will not be the first guy they go to. As soon as Charles left the game, they turned to West and he was the only back they used for the remainder of the game.

Knile Davis does bring intangibles to the table. He can get involved in the passing game and he is a quick runner that can explode through holes.

You have to think, both, West and Davis will get action in games. Just be prepared to see West leading this backfield. Now that doesn’t mean West has the job, no matter what, if for some reason west can’t carry the load, they won’t hesitate to put Davis in the game.

Darren McFadden-Cowboys

I know he has durability issues, he can get hurt going to check his mailbox, but, with Dunbar going down he clearly has a role. He isn’t the sexy name that every GM wants to own, but with the Dunbar injury a role as the pass catching back has opened up for him and the Cowboys are going to use him.

He led all Cowboys in receiving with 10 targets. He caught 9 of those targets. In standard leagues you can do better than DMC, but, In PPR leagues, he would end up being a contributor.

On the season, DMC has just 129 yards and a touchdown on the ground, but, he also has 12 receptions for 102 yards. While none of those numbers are too impressive, most of those passing numbers came in his last game. He should be owned in more than 35% of yahoo leagues. That much, I can say for certain.

Chris Thompson-Redskins

Where did this kid come from, he came out
Of nowhere and is developing into one of the better pass catching backs in the NFL. He is in a crowded backfield, but, he is their main pass catcher, so he should have a steady role from week to week.

In PPR leagues he is worth an add, in standard leagues he shouldn’t be owned. Moving forward, I think he makes enough of an impact to be a weekly flex option on your fantasy rosters.

Theo Riddick-Lions

Riddick is another one of those guys who isn’t going to do anything on the ground, but, they love him in the passing game. Much like Thompson and DMC, he should only be owned in PPR leagues, avoid in standard leagues.

David JonnsonCardinals

It’s hard to like him with Chris Johnson having as much success as he has had. However, they do like him in the redzone though. Evidence of this is his 2 touchdowns this week and the week before. In deep leagues he could make a nice emergency flex play.

Thomas Rawls-Seahawks

I’m not as high on him as a lot of people are going to be following his big week. This is still Lynch’s backfield, Rawls is just keeping it warm. Maybe they mix him in more, to keep Lynch fresh, but, every name on this list is guaranteed a bigger body of work than Rawls.

Wide Receivers

Michael Crabtree-Raiders

Owned in a little more than half of yahoo leagues, we need to get this guy on our rosters. He has proven to us, that, he is going to be a part of the Raiders’ game plan throughout the season.

Furthermore, he has proven that he has the ability to turn these opportunities into points for his owners. Cooper is the number 1 target in Oakland, but, Crabtree isn’t going anywhere and this offense is good enough to sustain 2 WRs, in the right Matchups.

Allen Hurns-Jaguars

First we looked at the WR2 for the Raiders and now the WR2 for the Jaguars, you have entered the Twilight Zone of WR waiver wire pick ups. Julius Thomas is starting to work his way back into the lineup, so you have to figure his targets are going to see a dip, but, that doesn’t change the fact that Hurns, has been putting in work and making the most of his opportunities

Due to the fact that Thomas is getting back into the mix, this is really only a grab for the deeper leagues. If you’re in a deeper league and you need another option at the position, why not take a chance on him.

Willie Snead-Saints

Please don’t listen to the experts, as none of them were saying that Snead is going to step up in this WR group. What can I tell you, even the guys that think they know it all, get it wrong from time to time.

I think Snead has a chance to lead this team in receiving numbers, and no, I didn’t forget that Cooks plays for the Saints. This Saints offense looked dull before Snead got into the mix
He has breathed new life into this team. Im expecting him to be a factor in their game plan every week. If this guy is on your Waiver Wire, please go and claim him. I’m going to be upset if I have to write about him again in this article next week.

Rueben Randle-Giants

He should be rostered in most leagues at this point. With no clear time table on when Cruz will get back, Randle is an intriguing option. I wouldn’t go ahead and expect that he will all of a sudden become a 100 reception stud. That’s not what he is, but, week to week, he can give you 10 plus points with some bigger games mixed in. He should be rostered in deeper leagues by this point.

Tight End

Gary Barnidge– Browns

Nobody saw this coming, but, this guy is becoming one of the most consistent targets the Browns have. He has gotten at least 8 targets a game, over the last 3 games and has had 6+ catches, in each of those games.
This week, he truly stepped out of the pack, with 8 receptions for 139 yards, both career highs. He has also scored in 3 straight weeks. It’s time

to roster this guy, he even catches balls with his feet.

Charles Clay-Bills

The tight end position is thin as usual, so if a guy steps up, you have to jump all over him. Clay didn’t exactly step up, scratch that, he was a huge disappointment this week. It was a matchup where we were expecting some big things, We didn’t get them.

He was dealing with cramps for basically the whole game. I’m giving him a pass this week, he is still on the right track and we should be targeting him.

Richard Rodgers-Packers

His numbers are consistently going up, we have to get this guy on our rosters before everyone gets on him. With Andrew Quarless out and Devante Adams banged up, his targets will only go up.

He has 14 targets over the past 2 weeks, along with 11 receptions. He is making the most of his opportunities and we can expect his production to steadily rise as the season progresses.

QuarterBacks

Blake Bortles-Jaguars

He really had a big game this week, throwing 4 touchdowns. It’s important we understand that this is no more than an aberration. 4 touchdown games aren’t going to be the norm here.

However, that’s doesn’t mean he isn’t a good add. He has shown progression as the season goes on and he is worth an add, but, you can’t expect him to be an every week starter for you.
The potential is there, he has emerging WRs and is an emerging talent himself. If you need help at the QB position, this is a solid add, but you’re still going to have to play matchups and make the right calls.
