Fantasy Football: Week 3 Sit/Start

Quarterbacks

START

Cam Newton-Carolina

This week he gets a Saints defense that has yet to stop anyone. They won’t be able to control a QB who can move the pocket. We saw last week that Cam can still produce big games, here and there. I wouldn’t bet on Cam Newton having 2 big games in a row, but, I can’t ignore this matchup.

Ryan MalletHouston

He gets a good matchup this week. I am aware that the Bucs held Brees to a relatively low number last week. I think that was more a reflection of the Saints than how strong the Buccaneers defense is.

Nick Foles-St. Louis

Even though the Steelers defense showed something last week, I’m still sending my guys out against them. Foles has looked decent to start the year. I think he has a chance for a big game this week.

SIT

Ryan Tannehill-Miami

He may be without the services of Jordan Cameron this week (who saw that coming). The matchup could be troublesome for him. The Bills are a defense that you want to avoid if you can.

Matthew Stafford-Detroit

I get that some teams might not have a good enough backup to start in place of Stafford and if that’s your situation then by all means start him. But, if you have a decent backup, you may want to bench Stafford this week. The Broncos defense has looked like it could be one of the best units in the league this year.

Colin Kaepernick-San Francisco

This is a bad matchup for him. He had decent numbers last week, in garbage time, but, relying on garbage time isn’t a winning strategy. Kaepernick is prone to turnovers and this is a tough secondary, sit him.

Running backs

Start

Matt Jones-Washington

The Giants are not what we would call a formidable defense, the real question with this sit/start is, should it be Morris or Jones on this list. I’m gonna go with jones, because, he is the more talented overall and I see this backfield as a split until Jones proves he can be the guy.

Shane Vereen-Giants

Coming off a solid performance in week 2 he gets a solid matchup in week 3. The Redskins defense has been stout against the run, but, Vereen should cut them up in the passing game.

Joseph Randle-Cowboys

With all the injuries the Cowboys offense has suffered early into this season, it’s hard to like anyone in this offense. It stands to reason that they are going to attempt to run over teams, at least until Romo can get back. Randle is clearly the most talented back in this backfield, so it stands to reason he will benefit from this.

Dion Lewis– New England

The Jaguars defense will be so preoccupied with stopping Gronk and Edleman, that Lewis will often go over looked. You can bet every time they leave him open Tom Brady will find him.

SIT

Rashad Jennings-New York Giants

He had a rough game last week against a weak Falcon’s defense, totaling just 24 yards. Vereen will get the receiving work. The Redskins rush defense has been stout this year so I’m not expecting him to make an impact this week

Doug Martin-Tampa Bay

This is a tough match up for him. The Texans have a tough front four. There is cause for concern in this match up.

Lamar Miller– Miami

The Bills front four is scary. I know Lamar Miller insists that he will be ready to go for this game and I believe he will play. I wouldn’t start him if he was healthy against the Bills, I definitely wouldn’t start a banged up Lamar Miller against them.

Ameer Abdullah– Detroit

I know we are all in love with Abdullah this year, but, the Broncos defense is the real deal.Furthermore, the addition of Ray has made them quite a formidable run defense. It would be wise to avoid him this week.

Wide Receivers

START

Leonard Hankerson-Falcons

This should be another nice week for Hankerson. The Falcons should be all over the Cowboys scoring many points.

Donte Moncrief– Indianapolis

Hilton definitely didn’t look 100% last Monday against the Jets. The Colts looked to Moncrief to fill the void in the passing game and he did it by posting a 7/122/1 stat line. It’s worth noting that he had such a big game because Andrew Luck was Avoiding Revis. I don’t believe Hilton will be 100% this Sunday, they will look to Moncrief to fill the void again this week. He gets a nice matchup against the Titans this week.

John Brown– Arizona

He gets a nice matchup this week against the 49ers. The Cardinals have looked very hot this year. I’m expecting that Palmer will find Brown for a touchdown or two.

SIT

Steve Smith– Baltimore

I’m not liking the matchup this week. The Bengals can be a dangerous defense. They will make a concentrated effort to take Steve Smith away from Flacco.

Brandin Cooks– New Orleans

We have to face it, he hasn’t had a good start to the season. The Saints offense as a whole hasn’t looked good. Now with question marks surrounding the health of Brees, you have good reason to sit him this week. Now, if you’re weak at WR and have to start him, then start him, there is nothing you can do.

Jordan Matthews– Philadelphia

The eagles offense hasn’t looked good to start the season. He will be vacationing on Revis island this week, so it doesn’t pay to start him.

Anquan Boldin– San Francisco

This is tough matchup for him this week. The Cardinals have one of the better defenses in the league this year. Their secondary is their strength, being that Boldin is their possession receiver, I expect the Cardinals will take him out of the game.

Eddie Royal– Chicago

I’m expecting that Alshon Jeffery won’t be playing this week. The Bears will likely be focused on getting him healthy. That means Royal will line up as the Bears #1. I would expect the Seahawks to have no problem eliminating him from the Bears game plan.

Tight ends

START

Jordan Reed– Washington

Jordan Reed has looked good to start the year. The Giants can be exposed deep down the seam.

Greg Olsen– Carolina

He seemed to be looking much better last week than he did in week 1. He should see plenty of targets and the Saints defense has been terrible this year.

Jason Witten-Dallas

I’m not concerned about him being banged up, he is a warrior and plays through most injuries. Backup QBs usually look to the TE as a safety blanket. He still has a chance to make an impact on a weekly basis.

SIT

Vernon Davis– San Francisco

This is another 49er pass catcher I just don’t feel safe starting against this Cardinals defense. The Cardinals are the hottest team in the NFL right now. If you only have one TE then start him, but, sit him if you have other options.

Eric Ebron– Detroit

He has looked good to start the season, but this isn’t a matchup you want to start him in. They will be pressuring Stafford and they have the secondary to back this fierce front seven up and Stafford’s health is a question.
