MLB FanDuel Gut Feeling 7/5- Afternoon Edition

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July and didn’t eat/drink too much.  For those of you awake this Sunday morning here are my picks for the afternoon slate.  Don’t forget to check about ten minutes before first pitch for any possible scratches since a few of the games starting after 2pm don’t have official lineups out yet:

Pitcher: Lance Lynn $9,000
The Cardinals send Lynn to the mound looking for a split in their series with the Padres.  This series has been low scoring so even if Lynn doesn’t get a win he should still have a good point output today.  Hes gone over 11 points three of his previous four starts.

Catcher: Alex Avila $2,500
If Yadier Molina is starting today he is also a good option at catcher.  At this price range it’s a toss up between Avila and Molina but I’m going Avila for now since Detroit’s lineup is officially in at the time I’m writing this and everyone is well aware of how random the scratches are on Sundays, especially at the catcher position.  Detroit is also the hotter lineup at the moment, going against a weaker Blue Jays pitching staff.

First Baseman: Joey Votto $3,300
Votto has been struggling to put up decent lines due to pitchers not giving him good pitches to hit, the ultimate show of respect for a good hitter.  I believe he’s due for a big game and today should be it.  Joey Votto is my Ultimate Gut Call.

Second Baseman: Kolten Wong $3,000
Wong is a disappointing 1-12 in this series vs the Padres so he could be in line for a day off when the lineups become official.  If Wong is in the lineup I think he could be in for a bounceback game vs Ian Kennedy.

Third Baseman: Manny Machado $4,000
Machado saved my lineup yesterday with that two run homer late in the game yesterday.  Expect the good times to continue vs the White Sox today.

Shortstop: Adeiny Hechavarria $2,500
With a batting average of .368 the past five games, Hechavarria is hitting very well for a shortstop at his price point.  This is a great value play, if he is in the official lineup when the Marlins release it.

Outfielder: Cameron Maybin $2,900
Maybin has been on fire in the month of July and last night he erupted for 13.5 points.  While he probably won’t come close to that today he should still do well (I’m thinking a single, double, and an RBI or two) against the Phillies, even if Cole Hamels is on the mound for Philadelphia.

Outfielder: Lorenzo Cain $3,500
Since June 30th, Cain has multi-hit games four of the past five games.  Ervin Santana pitches for the first time this season and will probably show some rust, especially early on.  I expect Cain to take advantage of that.

Outfielder: Brett Gardner $4,300
Yesterday, Teixeira was my Yankee of choice to have a good game and he finished with a double and RBI.  Today my Yankee of choice is Gardner.  He hasn’t had a multi-hit game since June 29th so I believe he’s due for a big game.  And the Yankees tend to have high scoring games on the weekend so Gardner is the pick here.

Confidence Level: 4 out of 5
I believe this is a strong lineup for today, if there are no scratches.  Good luck everyone!
