Swing for the Fences: DFS Home Run Predictions (June 13)

With very few high-quality starters on the 10-game slate Monday night there is plenty of home run potential. With so many options I didn’t even get to hype any players from the Twins against Jered Weaver but that doesn’t mean I don’t like guys like Brian Dozier and Eduardo Nunez.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – A.J. Pierzynski/Tyler Flowers (ATL) – Whichever Braves catcher draws the start tonight will be in a good position to go deep against Reds’ rookie Daniel Wright making just his second start and a Reds’ bullpen that has allowed 1.9 HR/9 this season.

1B – Albert Pujols (LAA) – Pujols has had success against Ricky Nolasco in his career going 13-for-28 with five doubles and three home runs. While Nolasco has allowed 1.13 HR/9 to righties this season.

2B – Brett Lawrie (CHW) – Lawrie has a .200 ISO against lefties this season and will face Tigers lefty Matt Boyd Monday who has allowed a .365 wOBA and 2.12 HR/9 to righties in his career.

SS – Marcus Semien (OAK) – Semien is well on his way to a career-high in homers this season with 12 through 62 games. Semien has done most of his damage against lefties with five homers in just 49 plate appearances on his way to .341 ISO and will face Rangers lefty Cesar Ramos tonight.

3B – Danny Valencia (OAK) – Valencia has crushed lefties this season with five homers in just 44 plate appearances. He will face lefty Cesar Ramos who has allowed four homers to lefties this season in just 21+ innings.

OF – Matt Kemp (SD) – Kemp will face lefty Wei-Yin Chen tonight who has allowed 1.48 HR/9 to righties this season while Kemp holds a .339 ISO against lefties and has multiple hits in four of his last six games.

OF – J.D. Martinez (DET) – Martinez faces James Shields tonight who has allowed five homers in his last two starts. Martinez has gone 6-for-18 with a double and a homer against Shields in his career.

OF – Ian Desmond (TEX) – Desmond will get a negative park adjustment going to Oakland tonight but should be able to make up for it with a .217 ISO against lefties and will face lefty Sean Manaea who has struggled against righties allowing seven homers over 35 innings this season.

Longshot – Adonis Garcia (ATL) Garcia is a cheap option to get some more expose to the favorable matchup against the Reds. Both of Garcia’s homers this season have come against righties.

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
