Swing for the Fences: DFS Home Run Predictions (June 19)

Another three home run day with my picks on Thursday even with two hitters not playing. Sunday’s picks primarily come from three teams, the Astros, Rangers and Diamondbacks. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there, enjoy the day and some DFS longballs!

Here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Evan Gattis (HOU) –Gattis hits homers in bunches including hitting four in five days earlier this month. Gattis homered Saturday and the streaky hitter will look to make it two in a row Sunday against lefty Brandon Finnegan who has allowed 10 homers (1.48 HR9) to lefties this season.

1B – Paul Goldschmidt (ARI) – Goldschmidt is hot with a 12-game hitting streak with four homers including homering in back-to-back games against the Phillies. Sunday, Goldschmidt will face the Phillies rookie Zach Eflin who will be making just his second big league start after allowing three homers in his first start.

2B – Rougned Odor (TEX) – Odor is already closing in on his career-high in homers with 13 this season after hitting 16 homers last year. Odor has hit for more power against righties with a career .202 ISO and will face righty Mike Leake with 90-degree temperatures in St. Louis.

SS – Carlos Correa (HOU) – Correa hits both lefties and righties well and has performed slightly better at home during his short career, so playing at home against the weak Reds pitching staff should give Correa a good chance to go deep.

3B – Pedro Alvarez (BAL) – Alvarez has found his home run stroke in June with four homers in just 10 games and has hit all seven of his homers this year against righties. Sunday he will face Blue Jays righty Marcus Stroman.

OF – Shin-Soo Choo (TEX) – Choo has had great success in limited at-bats against Cardinals starter, Mike Leake, going 4-for-8 with a double and two homers in his career. Add in the hot temperatures and Choo might add to his success against Leake.

OF – Matt Holliday (STL) – Have I mentioned that it is going to be hot in St. Louis? Hot weather equals home runs, so I will also give Holliday a shot to lift one out of the park against Rangers lefty Martin Perez and a Rangers bullpen that has allowed 1.40 HR/9 this season.

OF – George Springer (HOU) – Springer has a .227 ISO against lefties in his career and will face a home run prone lefty Finnegan and a weak Reds’ bullpen.

Longshot – David Peralta (ARI) Peralta has missed the last few games with some back soreness but may return to the lineup Sunday to face the Phillies righty Zach Elfin. Peralta hits righties very well with a career .210 ISO. His cheap price tag and recently missed time make him a good cheap GPP flier to go deep if he plays.

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
