Swing for the Fences: DFS HR Predictions for FanDuel and DraftKings (8/15)

The great thing about daily fantasy sports is that you can have a bad day or week and get a fresh start the next day, assuming you can let go of the past results and focus on the next day. I have found that I have become much better at letting go and forgetting about a bad day or week and embracing the new challenge that the next day brings. So, following a rough week last week, I am ready to embrace today and this week. So let’s get to it!

Prices included for FanDuel and DraftKings to help find where the best value may be and positions are based on FanDuel.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Jonathan Lucroy (TEX) (FanDuel: $3,500 / DraftKings: $4,800) – Lucroy has hit six homers over 12 games since being acquired by the Rangers. He has a .237 ISO against lefties this season and will face A’s lefty Ross Detwiler who has allowed career .352 wOBA to righties.

1B – Wil Myers (SD) (FanDuel: $3,800 / DraftKings: $4,600) – After hitting only two homers in July, Myers has already hit three this month. He has a .275 ISO against lefties this season and will face home run prone lefty Drew Smyly who has allowed 1.47 HR/9 to righties.

2B – Neil Walker (NYM) (FanDuel: $3,400 / DraftKings: $4,800) – Walker is batting .370 with three homers over his last seven games. He will get a favorable park adjustment going to Arizona and will face Robbie Ray who has allowed 1.72 HR/9 to righties at home this season.

SS – Marcus Semien (OAK) (FanDuel: $3,300 / DraftKings: $4,500) – Semien faces another lefty tonight with a favorable park adjustment playing in Texas. Semien has a .305 ISO against lefties and will face lefty Martin Perez who has allowed a .342 wOBA to righties this season.

3B – Adrian Beltre (TEX) (FanDuel: $3,400 / DraftKings: $5,000) – Beltre is riding an eight-game hitting streak including four straight muli-hit games. He will get a favorable matchup against Detwiler who has allowed 1.04 HR/9 to righties during his career.

OF – Mike Trout (LAA) (FanDuel: $4,100 / DraftKings: $5,000) – Trout crushed Felix Hernandez when he was an elite pitcher. Now that Hernandez has regressed, Trout continues to own him. Trout has a career .373 average with six homers in 82 plate appearances against Hernandez and has gone 5-for-10 with two homers off him this season.

OF – Jayson Werth (WAS) (FanDuel: $4,000 / DraftKings: $5,400) – Getting some exposure to Coors Field tonight on the Nationals side with Werth who has a .439 wOBA and .270 ISO against lefties this season. He will face Rockies’ lefty Jorge de la Rosa who has allowed 1.48 HR/9 to righties at home this season.

OF – Marcell Ozuna (MIA) (FanDuel: $3,400 / DraftKings: $3,900) – Ozuna was a big disappointment on Friday but I am going back to him again tonight against lefty Brandon Finnegan and the Reds. Ozuna has a .333 ISO against lefties this season while Finnegan has allowed 23 of his 24 homers to righties.

Longshot – Tyler Collins (DET) (FanDuel: $2,400 / DraftKings: $2,500) – Collins has seen an increase in playing time and batting near the top of the lineup recently with injuries in the Tigers outfield. He will face Royals righty Ian Kennedy who has allowed 2.10 HR/9 to lefties this season.

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
