“If you’re not betting the over, what are you doing?!” Scott Van Pelt’s famous line comes to my mind as I consider the contest between the Vikings and the Browns in Minnesota Sunday. When I imagine the outcome of the game, I see Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and Kevin Stefanski smiling.
Embed from Getty ImagesHow much must emerging victorious mean to Stefanski, who spent 14 years of his career with Minnesota? He knows that sticking to what’s working will give Cleveland their best shot at a win. And what’s working for the Browns? Chubb, Hunt, and a few fragments of the running game averaging 175 yards per game, the second-most.
Cleveland has both the most rushing attempts per game (34) and the most rushing touchdowns per game (2.7). Even with the return of Odell Beckham Jr last week, to divert from their successful game script would be ludicrous. Plus, Minnesota has allowed at least 100 yards and a rushing touchdown to each team they’ve faced this season.

Chicago’s defense held the Rams and the Bengals to less than 75 rushing yards, and then the Browns bruised right through them for 215. That’s how good these guys are. And even though Chubb was held scoreless and had his yards-per-carry cut in half, he had 22 carries. With Minnesota’s abysmal 4.8 yards per carry being allowed to opposing backs, Chubb should see those numbers even out this week.
Embed from Getty ImagesAnother positive for Chubb is that it’s likely Hunt’s production will somewhat regress. The Vikings haven’t allowed a whole lot of passing yards to running backs, ceding only five pass attempts per game (to running backs). Add this to the fact SKOL nation is also giving away an average of 410 yards per game with an average of only 32 pass attempts against them and, daaannnngggg, Chubb is primed for a monster game!
The real question mark Sunday’s brawl is going to be Hunt. It’s hard to believe that the Brown’s number one receiver in both yards and even yards per reception won’t also be a huge factor in this game. And even though the Vikings don’t allow the pass attempts to running backs that one might hope for Hunt, running backs have yet to not catch a pass thrown at them against Minnesota. And unfortunately for the Vikings, there isn’t a run, shift, or motion Hunt doesn’t like.
