The Only Buy Low/Sell High Guide You Need: Week 3

2-0? 1-1? 0-2? IT DOESN’T MATTER! The fantasy gods are fickle and they have no favorites. Your guide to dominating the trade block is here for your study.

Let’s get after it!

SELL HIGH

Tony Pollard, RB, Dallas Cowboys

Top 10 in fantasy points at the position in 2021 despite playing less than 35 percent of offensive snaps. He has 16 rush attempts on the season! That’s tied with Ty Johnson of the Jets. He is electric, but volume is still king in fantasy football. Capitalize on the Pollard > Elliott chatter and target an RB like Javonte Williams who will be the opportunity share leader on his team.

Rob Gronkowski, TE, Tampa Bay Bucs

13 targets, 12 receptions, 129 yards, and four touchdowns. One-third of his receptions have been touchdowns! This production, while entertaining, is unsustainable with so many target hogs on this team. Please read this next part carefully… make sure you replace his production at the TE position. Decent-to-good TEs are incredibly hard to come by in fantasy, so don’t trade him and leave yourself with Hunter Henry as your starting option.

Suggest trade: Rob Gronkowski for George Kittle

Marvin Jones Jr., WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

See my article last week on WR fantasy production with a rookie QB. The talent is undeniable, but this is the perfect opportunity to flip him because he is setting the Jacksonville area on fire. Tied for fifth in the league in targets on a team that is going to be in perpetual garbage time. I just don’t trust Trevor Lawrence to sustain Jones’s fantasy value. Jones is seeing volume which we love as fantasy managers, but his advanced metrics tell a tale of inefficient QB play.

WR49 in yards per route run, WR83 in catchable target rate, and WR76 in target quality rating. Those metrics will catch up to him. His trade value will never be higher than it is right now.

BUY LOW

Brandon Aiyuk, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Snap share increased in Week 2 and another week removed from the preseason hamstring injury. Will he return his fifth/sixth round average draft position? That remains to be seen, but managers have a bitter taste in their mouths from Kyle Shanahan’s handling of his former first-round pick. Aiyuk enjoyed an 86.75 percent snap share in the games he was healthy in 2020. This may be your best chance to acquire him on the cheap before he is an every-down player again.

Kenny Golladay, WR, New York Giants

He has been outplayed by Sterling Shepard… that’s as mehdiocre as it gets. You can trade him for a bag of peanuts and $14 in FAAB. He is far and away the most talented WR on this team and his next three games are Falcons, Saints, and Cowboys. Those teams rank 14th, 2nd, and 20th in most receiving yards allowed on the young season. The Saints gave up nearly 300 passing yards to Sam Darnold in Week 2. Float an offer out there and enjoy top 36-40 production for the rest of the season.

Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Cleveland Browns

I’m probably a week too late with this, especially after Jarvis Landry was placed on IR. Throw a low ball offer to the Beckham manager and test their grip on him. He should start in Week 3 making him a solid bet to lead the team in targets at least until Landry returns. He is still an extremely talented football player on a team where he isn’t the number one weapon. Don’t expect 2014-2016 OBJ to magically appear, but he could be a rock-solid third WR for your fantasy team.

Honorable mention: Clyde Edwards-Helaire

He has been as plain as a peanut butter sandwich on white bread, but he is RB3 in opportunity share attached to a top-three offense. He has to start producing at some point… right?
