XFL DFS Top Picks and Advice for Week 3 (DraftKings)

Week 2 was a very good week. My cash lineup crushed and all GPPs cashed. That’s two good weeks in a row, let’s make it three straight…

Quarterback

Brett Hundley (VGS) vs. SEA $7,400

Hundley got the start in the second half of the Week 2 loss to the Defenders and I would expect that to be a permanent switch at quarterback, making Hundley a considerable value. His rushing upside is evident as he had 24 yards rushing in limited time in a game they were trailing. The Sea Dragons have allowed the 3rd most rushing yards through two weeks.

XFL DFS Top Picks and Advice for Week 3 (DraftKings)

Brandon Silvers (HOU) vs. SA $9,500

I’m going back to the well once more, but be warned, the Brahmas have the best defense through two weeks, allowing the fewest total yards (410), fewest passing yards (242) and allowing the third-fewest points (15ppg). On the plus side, Silvers leads the league in passing TDs (4), is 2nd in passing yards (445) and has the second most passing attempts (70). It’s strength versus strength.

Running Back

De’Veon Smith (ARL) vs. ORL $6,500

By all accounts, Smith is the lead back in this offense, yet his backfield mate Keith Ford is still priced higher. Smith had more carries and was tied for the team lead in targets last week. Smith is also averaging 8.8fppg with Ford a meager 1.8fppg. Orlando’s defense is middle of the pack in terms of total yards and yards per carry, but they are tied with the most rushing touchdowns allowed. Smith gets in the endzone in this game, mark it down.

Abram Smith (DC) vs STL $8,200

Smith is by far my favorite play at the RB position this week. It’s a matter of strength versus weakness. The Defenders lead the league in rushing as a team — by a lot. They have 313 rushing yards as a team, no other team has even broken 200. They also lead the league in rushing touchdowns as a team with 4 — the Roughnecks are the only other team with multiple rushing touchdowns so far this season.

St. Louis has given up the second-most rushing yards and the third-highest average yards per carry through 2 weeks, and while they have yet to give up a rushing touchdown, they’ve allowed the most first-down rushes in the league (18). I expect it to be only a matter of time before they give up a touchdown, and it could be this week to Smith.

Mataeo Durant (STL) @ DC $6,300

For some reason Brian Hill was a healthy scratch last week, leaving Durant as the lead back. Unfortunately, he didn’t do much with the opportunity, but he did get 13 carries and 4 targets. I only like Durant if Hill is out again, but that type of volume, even in a tough matchup, is worth the fairly inexpensive price tag of Durant.

Others to Consider: Morgan Ellison (SEA) $4,600

Wide Receiver/Tight End

XFL DFS Top Picks and Advice for Week 3 (DraftKings)

Jahcour Pearson (SEA) @ VGS $9,000

Can you explain to me why the guy leading the league in targets, catches and yards is the fifth-priced WR/TE on the slate? I can’t explain it either. This is an easy choice for me, even in a tough matchup with the second-ranked pass defense in terms of yards allowed, you can’t fade Pearson at his price.

Jontre Kirklin (HOU) vs. SA $7,700

Kirklin is another underpriced player. Only Pearson has more receiving yards than Kirklin, and his numbers would be much better if not for his backup QB completely missing him on what should have been a walk-in touchdown last week. Cole McDonald, the Roughnecks’ backup QB, comes in from time to time to act as a runner at QB. He threw one pass last week and it was an overthrow to a wide-open Kirklin for a would-be touchdown. I was tilted because I had 100 percent exposure to Kirklin last week.

Hakeem Butler (STL) @ DC $6,100

Butler is a huge receiver at 6-foot-5 230-pounds. He is so big, in fact, that after he failed to make an impact in the NFL as a wide receiver, he attempted to make the switch to tight end. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out either. But, in the XFL he has looked good through two weeks, and a player of his stature is a great red zone threat. He has two TDs on the season, which is currently tied for the league lead. His opponent this week is a funnel defense as the Defenders give up only 71 yards per game on the ground, but 183 passing yards per game.

Andrew Jamiel (ORL) @ ARL $5,700

Jamiel caught three passed for 80 yards and a TD last week, which accounts for almost all of his production this season, so I might be chasing points here, but he is playing the worst pass defense in Arlington which is giving up a league-worst 200.5 passing yards per game.

Cinque Sweeting (VGS) vs. SEA $4,300

Jeff Badet is probably the more popular stacking option with Brett Hundley as he has the big-play ability, but if you want to get sneaky and save some money, take a look at Sweeting. He has 5 catches for 78 yards and a TD on the season, most of that with the former starting QB, but Hundley did target Sweeting a few times in last week’s game in his limited playing time, so there could be some chemistry there.

Others to Consider: Blake Jackson (SEA) $7,100

Defense

Arlington Renegades vs. ORL $4,800

This is more about the Guardians being bad than it is about the Renegades being good. Orlando has the third-fewest total yards (155.5/game), leads the league in INTs (4), and sacks allowed (9). Renegades are pricey, but you should be able to pay up for them.
