CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 16

Just like last week, we have 3 CFL games on the slate this week. That still gives plenty of opportunity to win big playing Daily Fantasy Sports. As always, I attempt to find the best values on the DraftKings DFS platform. So, without further delay, here are my Week 16 values in Canadian Football League DFS.

Quarterback

Dane Evans (HAM) $8,600 @ MTL

Last week, one of the things I got wrong was stating that there were only three quarterbacks to choose from. Partially that was due to the uncertainty in the QB rooms of the other three teams. Well, my expectations were completely shattered as Dane Evans put up a career-game with Hamilton. After dealing with a shoulder injury, and a heavy turnover rate, I did not expect much from Dane Evans against Winnipeg. Instead, Evans threw 5 TD passes and showed that he truly turned a corner. Not just with the shoulder injury, but also with the mental aspect of the game.

So far in 2022, Evans has thrown a lot of interceptions, and has fumbled regularly. And throughout the early portion of the season, whenever he made one mistake, Evans would often compound it with other mistakes afterwards. Instead, what we got in Week 15 was a new Evans, one who did not even commit a single turnover. If this is the QB that the Tiger-Cats though they were getting this year, then they will certainly show confidence in their starter. After all, Hamilton has been using a semi-2QB system throughout 2022. In Week 15, that was not case as Evans played ever drive, instead of being removed from time-to-time. That will certainly help his fantasy floor as he won’t miss out on potential production while on the bench.

Vernon Adams (BC) $7,900 vs CGY

In Week 15, Vernon Adams got his first start for the BC Lions after being acquired in a trade. He rewarded his new team with an important win over Calgary and he gets a chance to do the same in Week 16. While Adams did not find the end zone last week, he still threw for 294 yards against a talented Stampeders defense. If he can score touchdowns in this matchup, Adams will certainly be worth the price. He also can help his fantasy floor with additional rushing. Last week, he produced 32 yards on the ground, a season-best for Adams so far.

The real appeal of Adams on DraftKings this week is the fact that he is listed at a backup QB price below $8,000. In fact, the Lions backup QB is actually $1,600 more expensive than Adams. Now, part of this is the nature of quarterbacks in the CFL. The backups will usually take the short-yardage and goal-line snaps, which is part of the reason that Adams did not have any touchdowns last game. However, with another week of practice to get connected with his new (and very talented) receivers, Adams should be able to make the most and potentially throw multiple touchdown passes.

Running Back

Devonte Williams (OTT) $4,400 vs TOR

With a smaller slate, I went with fewer RB selections last week. Well, with only three games on tap in the CFL, I am taking a similar approach to this article. In the DraftKings CFL DFS format, you only have to play 1 RB every week. Of late, I have really been pushing the pay-down approach at RB, in order to maximize the value for elite quarterbacks and wide receivers. Making lineups this week, there is always one RB who keeps getting the nod. That player is Ottawa’s Devonte Williams.

Every time he has played in 2022, Williams has received double-digit touches from the RedBlacks. With the team’s starter out on Injured Reserve, Williams has done well to occupy the workhorse back role. Look for that to continue here in Week 16. And as long as he continues to cost less than $5K, he should continue to pay off his price.

Wide Receiver

Eugene Lewis (MTL) $11,400 vs HAM

With a player like Eugene Lewis, it’s all about picking the right weeks to play him. As the 2nd most expensive player overall on the Week 16 DraftKings slate, it may be difficult to characterize him as a value. After all, paying up for a pricy option like Lewis, you really need him to smash that week. Well, looking back to his previous performances against Hamilton, I would say it’s a good spot for Lewis. Facing the Tiger-Cats defense twice so far in 2022, Lewis produced his two best fantasy performances of the season against them. One of those games even included a season-best 154 receiving yards for Lewis. With the Hamilton secondary missing key pieces, Lewis has a chance to better those numbers.

Aside from the Tiger-Cats matchup, Lewis has been pretty productive this season. He is top 5 in the entire CFL in catches (63) and receiving yards (954). With a mark of 15.1 yards per reception, Lewis stats truly showcase his deep-threat ability. But Montreal will also design him touches in order to get the ball in his hands in space. He can be worth the elevated cost on DK. And what better week to go after the top options then when there are fewer games? With only three matches on the slate this week, and less options available, these are the situations where I want to go after the #1 players.

Tim White (HAM) $10,400 @ MTL

Bryan Burnham (BC) $10,000 vs GCY

This week, with less expensive QB selections, it makes sense to go after a pair of five-figure stack. For each of the quarterbacks I wrote about earlier, there is a prime stacking option at WR that costs around $10K. For Hamilton, Tim White is not only their top passing game option, but his stats stand out among the entire league. For starters, White leads the CFL is both targets (108) and receptions (72). He is also tied for 4th in the league with 7 TD catches.

For the BC Lions $10K stack WR, I am selecting Bryan Burnham. Now, unlike Tim White for Hamilton, Burnham is not his team’s obvious alpha in the passing game. Looking at the DraftKings price list for Week 16, we can see why as there are three Lions wide receivers hitting the five-figure mark. But not only is Burnham the least expensive of those three, but he has also done the best against Calgary. In the two previous Lions-Stampeders meetings this season, Burnham produced a combined 53.5 fantasy points. Compare that to his two fellow Lions wide receivers, who scored 40.2 and 20.2 in those two matchups combined, and Burnham comes in at a great value.

Kurleigh Gittens (TOR) $9,200 @ OTT

There are currently five players on Toronto with at least 3 receiving touchdowns. However, among that group, there is only one player that is at the top of every other Argonauts pass-catching stat. Kurleigh Gittens leads the team in targets (80), catches (57), receiving yards (759), yards after the catch (327), and has the longest Toronto TD reception of the season (70 yards). He is clearly the alpha of the passing game, and yet, there are two other Argonauts wide receivers priced within $1K from Gittens. Relative to his teammates, Gittens presents the best value on the slate. Looking at his 33.1 fantasy point performance against Ottawa before the bye week, I’d say the matchup looks great for him as well.

Deep Dive

Luther Hakunavanhu (CGY) $2,700 @ BC

Last week, in wake of several Calgary injuries, Luther Hakunavanhu emerged as the third option in the passing game. Looking to reprise a season-best 14.9 fantasy point performance, Hakunavanhu is in a good spot, and could see at least 7 targets like he did last week. Should Hakunavanhu repeat that type of opportunity, then he should certainly pay off his sub $3K price tag.

Defense

Hamilton Tiger-Cats $3,800 @ MTL

One of the best ways to access all of the elite players that I have mentioned is to pay all the way down at defense. Specifically, I am targeting the sub-$4K options such as Hamilton. Even though they are on the road, I still expect the Tiger-Cats defense to replicate the intensity from their previous two home games. Fantasy-wise the Hamilton defense produced double-digit points in each of those contests. And that includes a 28-8 loss in that stretch.

Ottawa RedBlacks $3,600 vs TOR

My favorite defensive play on the slate is right at the bottom of the price list. When the least expensive defense is also playing at home, I tend to pay attention. Especially when they are on such a hot streak. Over the past three games, the Ottawa defense has produced 7 turnovers and 9 sacks. Look for the momentum to continue for this great pay-down option.
