Top Pitching Options
Gerrit Cole (DK – $1000, FD – $10600) – Since Bumgarner and Hamels square off against each other, Cole gets the nod as the #1 pitching option today with the higher possible % of getting the W as he faces the hot or not Cardinals offense. The Redbirds have put up over 4 runs in 4 of their last five games, but I am still not convinced they have their offense rolling. St. Louis’ numbers against RHP are just average this year – a .319 wOBA and a 103 wRC+ with a 19.1% K rate. Nothing to get to worried about. Cole has a 2.910 SIERA, 1.113 WHIP, and a 9.22 K/9 ratio on the year, all of which should hold against the Cardinals. Look for the Pirates to put 2-3 runs on the board against Lynn which should be enough for Cole to earn the W along with 7 Ks and 7 IP.

Top Value Pitching Options
Kyle Hendricks (DK – $6900, FD – $7300) – If you are playing the all day slate and looking for a cheap P#2 option today, Hendricks may be your best bet as he faces the cross-town rivals at Wrigley Field. Hendricks has had back to back 27+ Dk points starts, granted the Cubs were playing against the Mets and Marlins but the White Sox are about in the same boat. Chicago’s southside team has been really struggling at the plate this year with a .299 wOBA and an 86 wRC+ against RHP. The Sox’s have been playing better as of the past two weeks, but Hendricks should be able to hold them to 2 or fewer runs through six innings.Â
Wandy Rodriguez (DK – $5400, FD – $6400) –Â Plain and simple: ownership and struggling offense. Rodriguez is going to have extremely low ownership as he is not a top tier pitcher, but he throws against the Padres tonight who haven’t scored over 2 runs in a game in over a week. Rodriguez only needs 10-11 points to hit value on both sites. Its a gamble, but with as bad as the Padres have been of late Rodriguez gets in as my sneaky GPP pitcher #2 tonight.
Top Hitting Options
Josh Donaldson – 3B (DK – $4800, FD – $5100) – Donaldson commands a hefty price tag today, but it should pay off. He faces KC Royals LHP Danny Duffy tonight and Donaldson is always my top pick when the opposing pitcher is sub-par LHP. He has a a .461 wOBA, .342 ISO and a wRC+ of 199 against LHP this year. Duffy has the worst matchup of any pitcher today as the Blue Jays typically destroy LHP. Donaldson should post a solid line with 2 hits, 1 HR, and 3 RBIs exceeding value on both sites.
Joey Votto – 1B (DK- $4900, FD – $3400) – I always try to find some great value between the salary prices of DK and FD and today Votto is a clear pick on FD. His FD salary was up close to $5000 just three weeks ago and has been steadily declining ever since bottoming out at $3200 on July 7th. Not only is he cheap on FD, but he gets a pretty good line facing a RHP in David Phelps of the Marlins. Votto has his best numbers against RHP this year with a .389 wOBA, 149 wRC+, over .500 SLG and .909 OPS. The Reds got shutdown by Fernandez yesterday, but don’t expect that today. Votto is a sure but to hit 2x value on FD. I wouldn’t recommend him on DK as his price tag is more expensive than Pujols, Teixeira, Frazier and Encarnacion.
