LOL DFS – LPL / LCK Value Meter (4/9/20)

We have a saucy little 5-game LOL slate over on DraftKings and that includes 3 games from the LPL and 2 games from the LCK. But wait what the hell is LOL? Well it’s a video game of course and the name is actually League of Legends for all you beginners out there and DraftKings is blessing us with some DFS contests. And the two most talented leagues in the world unsurprisingly come out of China and Korea who have been dominating for years. The LPL is in China and the LCK is in Korea. And now that we have that little crash course out of the way we can look into each and every game and see exactly where the value lies tomorrow.

Value Stacks:

Stack #1: Griffin – Am I really touting the team that is currently in dead last in the LCK? Well yes I am ladies and gentlemen and the reasoning is because Griffin is going to be doing everything in their power to avoid relegation. And if you don’t know what relegation is it’s basically where the 2 worst teams in the LCK face off with the 2 top teams in the challenger series.

The 2 top teams from that 4-team tournament earn a place into the LCK for the next split which is something that basically helps avoid any trash teams in the league. And currently Griffin sits at 4-12 which is dead last. But wait! They are only 2 games away from 6th place which is where Afreeca (their opponent tomorrow) currently sits. And what’s even better about this matchup is the current streaks these teams are on. Griffin has won 2-straight series while Afreeca on the other hand has dropped 6-series in a row with rock bottom being their 0-2 sweep to HLE last series.

And what’s even worse is Afreeca swapped out their starting mid laner Fly last series which means they are starting to try to new lineups because playoffs are out of the window. But enough about the Freecs (that’s Afreeca’s name I swear), let’s talk about Griffin and what’s going right. First off, they put Sword back in the top lane which is something I really like as he was a dominant force for them last split when they were one of the top teams in the LCK.

Another bonus is that Sword is actually the cheapest top lane play on the entire slate at only $4,800. But let’s make sure that he is locked in as the starter before we lock him in just because a lot of teams have substitutes and it can be tilting when you get a 0. A good way to find starting lineups is on Twitter, there are a few analysts who announce starting lineups but you will need to stay up late. But enough about Sword, what about the main carries on this team?

Well look no further than Ucal ($6,400) and Viper ($7,000) who will be leading Griffin to victory tomorrow in what I believe will be a stomping of the Afreeca Freecs. But wait, we need 4 plays to solidify an entire value stack and the final piece to that puzzle is going to be Tarzan ($5,800) who had the best name of any jungler ever. Keep calm and stack Griffin tomorrow because the value is nuts over here.

Stack #2: LGD – Want a stack that can either make or break the slate? Well look no further than LGD gaming who is coming off an impressive 2-1 victory over Team WE. And that victory can be summed up with one word – Kramer, and no I’m not talking about Seinfeld. I’m talking about the bottom laner for LGD who puts the carry into ADC. I mean come on! He’s dropped 100+ DraftKings points in 3 separate series while averaging 75.0 DraftKings points per series so far this split. That’s insane for a player on a team that is currently sitting with a 3-7 record. And guess who they face tomorrow? RNG who currently holds a record of 7-4. But wait, before you give up on this pick think about this. There is no Karsa in the jungle and there is no Uzi in the bot lane. So this team really is not the RNG we are used to fearing as Uzi is still being hindered by the quarantine. So, does this mean they are beatable? Well let’s see who gave them those 4 losses and maybe we can find something interesting. 1) IG (10-1), 2) FPX (9-2), 3) VG (5-7), 4) BLG (4-8). And there we go, RNG has 2 understandable losses to IG and FPX but they also have 2 unacceptable losses to teams of lower calibers. So why can’t LGD pull this one off y’all? I mean they have a legitimate jungler in Peanut, a solid mid laner in Yuuki, a bonafide ADC in Kramer and they even have a solid support in Killua who is really the key to my upset pick here. Killua was away from the team for a while but is now back and has played in 3-straight series for LGD. And guess what, LGD is 2-1 and took a game off EDG since he has become the starting support. And even better, his DraftKings points per series over those 3-series is a whopping 76.967! This play is 100% a risk but when LGD pulls off that upset you better hit me up.
